Zona was born on October 4, 1929 in Baker, MT to Alonzo (Lonnie)and Clara D. Brown. She attended school in Amidon during the early years and graduated from Bowman High School in 1948. She met Eldon (Bus) Patterson in 1945 and started dating during high school. She enjoyed flying and soloed at the age of 16. Zona also enjoyed attending the University of ND. Zona and Bus were married on June 14, 1950 and made their home in Bowman, ND. They had five children, 4 girls and a boy. Zona stayed home to raise their children. After their divorce, she went to work at Bowman High School as business manager in 1976. She worked there until her retirement in May 2000. She enjoyed her 24 years working and watching all the kids come through the high school and become successful adults. She always took pride in her work and loved the days the grandchildren would come to visit her at school. Zona was an avid Bridge player and was happy when Janet started playing. Her true love was being an active member of Bowman Lutheran Church. Zona taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and really enjoyed the curious little minds and the questions they had. She also participated in Bible Study Groups where she especially enjoyed giving the lesson. Zona loved her grandchildren and always took them to the Tastee Freez whenever they would come to visit. She also liked to discipline them when they would walk on the brick retaining wall or hang on her clothesline. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities including sports, concerts and academic achievements. She loved bragging about them and always had something to say about them whenever she could.

Zona is survived by daughters, Candice (Lonnie) Kulseth, Sheridan, WY; Karla (Monty) Stack, Bismarck, ND; daughter-in-law, Debbie Patterson, Bowman, ND; and son-in-law, Tim Riegel, Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law, John Beckman, Copperas Cove, TX; 6 grandchildren, Ryan Riegel, Sioux Falls, SD; Allison (Derek) Zylewicz, Ridgefield, CT; Paul (Jane) Evans, Seattle, WA; Anika (Curtis) Schaff, Bismarck, ND; Kyle Kulseth, Bozeman, MT, Rhonda (James) Holm, Aurora, IL; 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and several other family members and friends.
