Wayne was born on December 24th, 1961, in Dickinson, ND, the first of two children of Marvin and Lois (Twist) Wegner.
Wayne attended country school at the Cottage School where his children followed in his footsteps. He graduated from Bowman High School in 1980. While in high school, he met his future wife, Denise Voegele. They were married on June 16th, 1984 at the Bowman Lutheran Church. From this union, two children were born; John and Lisa.
In his younger years, Wayne showed beef cattle through FFA and 4H with his brother, Glenn, in Minot, Bowman and Amidon. He also raced dirt bikes and 3 wheelers, which built many lifelong friendships. He worked with Clarence Kitzan processing meat, and helped build the Bowman Grain elevator. His passion was always farming and ranching, which was what he spent the remainder of his life doing. He worked side by side with his brother, Glenn, and with family and friends to make this possible. Wayne was a kind man with his focus being family, friends, farming and ranching, and the community. He was spontaneous and always up for a harmless fun prank. He may or may not have been involved in a toilet on a grain bin or an emu in a barn. Wayne spent as much time as possible with his immediate and extended family. His kids and grandkids have so many fond memories with him playing cards, bowling, visiting, and eating ice cream, because "there's always room for ice cream". Wayne helped in the community in any way he could. He worked on the ambulance squad as an EMT and at one time was the squad leader. He was on the Cenex board, the Lutheran Church board, and the weather mod board. He was an unrecognized volunteer firefighter, as he was always there to help with the ranch truck when smoke was in the air. If a neighbor or friend was working cows or farming and needed a hand, he was probably there to help. Wayne could fix or build just about anything, "even shelves." He had a very creative, inventive and resourceful mind, and if he didn't have the part he needed, he would simply make it. He had a lifelong passion for shooting, hunting, and the outdoors that he shared with friends and family.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Denise, of 38 years; son: John (Alyssa) Wegner of Bowman; and daughter: Lisa Koppinger of Bowman; grandchildren: Karsyn, Kimber, Knox, Jersey, Mia, and Jaxson; Brother: Glenn (Lavonne) Wegner; Sister-in-Law: Sherry Mollman (Mike Rohrich); Brother-in-Law: Corey (Wendy) Voegele; Nieces: Mikala Wegner, Cody (Cody) Kummer, Jill (Cory) Wall, Nephews: Travis (Eve) Mollman, Logan Mollman.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents: Marvin and Lois Wegner; mother and father-in-law Chris and Carol Voegele; and numerous aunts and uncles.
