Susan was born on May 17, 1952, in Bowman, ND, the daughter of L. Charles and Ardele (Nelson) May of Scranton, ND. When Susan was young, she loved spending time with her dad outside. She attended 1 st grade at the Hammond School and then the next year and a half she went to Gascoyne School. She started her 3 rd grade in Gascoyne for the first half and finished in the new Scranton School in which she graduated from in 1970. Susan furthered her education in Dickinson and later going to Minneapolis to the University of Minnesota where she also worked in the Research Lab. Susan lost her parents at a young age so the surrounding friends, neighbors and the people she worked for had great influence on her life. Susan loved the ranch way of life and especially loved her cats. One of Susan's past times was reading, in which she would read anything and everything, especially non-fiction. For a short time Susan raised hogs and sheep. After leaving the farm, you would find Susan helping friends and neighbors with ranch work, farming and harvest. She was a very supportive sister to Gene. Always willing to help with whatever needed to be done. Susan was very compassionate with animals, never wanting them to be hungry, hurt or sick. She would definitely let know they needed to be taken care of. She also had compassion for her friends and would be willing to help in any way she could. In her early years she worked for the Sale Barn in Bowman and in later years she worked at Stockman's in Dickinson. She loved to tell stories about those days. Susan's summer activities always included helping with and enjoying the Bowman County 4-H activities, which she truly loved. She also enjoyed going to the Home on the Range Saddle Bronc match with her friends. She really looked forward to those activities. Susan was a member of the 4-H Club Stateline Lads and Lassies for 10 years along with the Range Riders Horse Club. Susan didn't have any children herself, but "loved" helping them with their livestock projects. She was an avid sports fan and other local activities. She really enjoyed kids. She was an active member of the Scranton Lions Club and she loved the weekly Burgers in the Park where she would visit with everyone and would make sure everyone had what they needed. She loved what the Lion's stood for and loved helping people that needed the help.
Susan was preceded in death by her soul mate, Marguerite Huber and her parents, L. Charles and Ardele May. She is survived by her only sibling, Gene and Susan May of Scranton, her step nieces and nephews along with numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
