Sharon Rose Smyle was born on June 8th, 1944 in Hettinger, ND, the daughter of Frank and Katherine Smyle. She grew up on the family farm twelve miles south of Reeder. She attended Lightning Creek Country School through 8th grade. Sharon graduated from Reeder High School in 1962. She planned to attend college after graduation, but her plans changed when she met the love of her life; her future husband, Kenneth Steiner. On November 17th, 1962 Sharon was united in marriage to Kenneth M. Steiner in the Sacred Heart Church in Scranton, ND. Kenneth and Sharon made their home on a farmstead six miles east of Scranton.
Sharon helped Kenneth farm and ranch for over 40 years. She worked at the Sunset Care Nursing Home for ten years in Bowman, ND. She worked at Scranton Public Schools as a cook for two years. For 34 years, she helped run the Bowman Theater with Kenneth and her brother-in-law Elmer (Chris). In addition to her jobs, she stayed busy raising four children. She supported her family by attending sporting events, school activities, and church events over the course of four decades. She treasured the time with her siblings whether they were visiting, playing cards, playing the 'slots', or camping. She loved tending to her flowers and her lawn. She enjoyed her retirement with Kenneth traveling throughout the country.
Her most treasured memories were from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She 'spoiled' them every chance she got and loved them unconditionally. Her face lit up when she talked of her grandkids. She always had a 'story' to share about their accomplishments. She had a new found joy with the latest additions to the family, her great granddaughters, Emery and Addison. Her relationship with Kenneth lasted over five decades and they were always together. They were not only husband and wife, but also best friends. Sharon had a strong relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and this remained a source of inspiration which guided her life.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth M. Steiner, her four children: Michael (Teresa) Steiner, Tammy (Todd) Hofland, Kenneth (Julie) Steiner, and Cory (Jessica) Steiner; nine grandchildren: Dustin Steiner, Kelin Hofland, Derek Steiner, Jayden Hofland, DelRae Steiner, Kelsa Steiner, Kaeden Steiner, Aliyah Steiner, and Kailee Steiner; two great-granddaughters: Emery Hofland and Addison Steiner; four sisters: Yvonne Moen, Ilene Dobner, Evelyn (Gary) Symanowski, and JoAnn Ledeman; three brothers: Jerry Smyle, Pete Smyle, and Frank Smyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katherine Smyle; and an infant brother.
