Sandra Marlene Warner was born December 28, 1947, in Kearney, Nebraska to Jim and Velma Warner. Sandy grew up in Nebraska and Colorado, graduating from Castlerock High School in 1966. She met the love of her life, Wallace (Gene) Miller in high school and were married on December 16, 1966,in Englewood, CO. Gene and Sandy made their home in the Fort Collins, CO area, where she worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses and Gene finished his degree at Colorado State University. A daughter was also born during their time in Colorado. They then made their way to Ashby, NE in 1973 where she continued working as a bookkeeper and worked for the local newspaper. They were then blessed with their son Chad in 1976. They then moved to Arthur, NE where Sandy was also a county commissioner for Arthur County.
Gene and Sandy made a life change in 1995, moving to the Black Hills of South Dakota. There Gene taught at Western Dakota Technical Institute and Sandy continued to train horses. They both became professors of the equine department at National American University in Rapid City, SD, which led to the start of their very own on-line equine program, Global Equine Academy in 2001, which Gene continues to this day.
Sandy was an avid horsewoman from a very young age. She grew up riding horses to school, but her main love was barrel racing. Sandy went on to train many successful and competitive barrel racing horses throughout her lifetime. She was very proud when someone else could take a horse she trained and go win on them. Sandy spent many hours helping kids and adults alike learn to ride her horses and was always willing to help or give advice to anyone that asked. She had a keen eye for a good horseand gave her granddaughters a lot of them to learn on and train themselves. She continued riding until she could no longer get into the saddle, which was only a few years ago.
You could find Gene and Sandy on the dance floor in the younger years. She loved to dance and also to play pranks on her friends! Sandy loved to plant trees and tend to her yard, especially her blooming cactus.
Sandy's biggest blessing was her family. She loved spending time with her son and her granddaughters. She enjoyed going all out for them at Christmas time with decorations, food and gifts. It brought her great joy to spend time with her granddaughters. She was very proud of her family and was happy to tell anyone she met about them.
She was preceded in death by her father Jim Warner, mother Velma Collins, brother Jerry Warner, brother Mike Warner, infant son Justin, niece Claudette Britt.
