Sandra "Sandy" Joann Fischer, 67 of Bowman, ND passed away on August 27, 2024. Sandy was the eighth of the twelve children born to Andrew and Viola Obritsch. Sandy was raised on a farm approximately 16 miles south of South Heart. Sandy loved climbing the "big" hill on the farm with her brother and sisters. Sandy loved collecting rock marbles on the marble hill.
Sandy met Larry Fischer in Dickinson through his niece. They married on March 13, 1979 in Dickinson, ND. Shortly after, they had a son, Chad.
Sandy owned and operated a salon in Belfield, ND in the early 1980's. While she made people look their best, her clients loved listening to her, vibrant, creative and fun personality.
In 1987, Sandy found her role as a paraprofessional / educator in the Beach School District where she worked for 12 years. Sandy had a warmth for caring and interacting with children both young and old. What could only be considered a gift from God, Sandy had a patience few people could match and a penchant for building a relationship with some of the most troubled at-risk students that attended school in Beach and that came from the Home on the Range (therapeutic and work ranch). Sandy took pride in knowing that she provided a safe learning environment for these kids for at least a few hours a day.
In 2003, Sandy and Larry moved to Bowman, ND. In Bowman, Sandy switched from being a paraprofessional to working as a daycare provider at Tot Lots. Working at Tot Lots brought great joy to Sandy. All those little smiles rejuvenated Sandy's soul.
When Sandy was not giving her energy to children, she loved her "dogs" AND any other dog that crossed her path. No dog ever went away without receiving a treat from Sandy. Sandy's dogs were the "Kings" of the Fischer's family and dear to Sandy's heart. Sometimes Sandy's dogs were treated so well, her son pondered if life might be better in the doghouse as well.
Sandy will be remembered for loving the finer things including fine wine, jewelry and clothes. Sandy had a distinct style for all things glamorous, glitzy and sparkly. Very few things Sandy wore, carried or used were not "bedazzled".
Growing up with the chaos of seven brothers and four sisters the importance of family was ingrained into Sandy's soul and she loved spending time with family. Sandy always looked forward to the next family wedding, reunion or gathering. Family gatherings were a major event in the Obritsch/Fischer family, many of which were followed by stories retold for months and years afterward. Sandy never missed these gatherings or the opportunity to share a beverage with her large family. More recently, Sandy never missed spending time or holidays with grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her husband Larry of Bowman, ND; son Chad (Kari) of Velva, ND; grandchildren Wyatt and Brycen, brothers Markus (Joann) of Dickinson, ND; Harvey (Kathy) of Gladstone, ND, Ronald (Georgie) of South Heart, ND, Dr. Jerry (Nancy) of Bismarck, ND, and Wesley (Julie) of Lanesboro, MN, and sisters Marcella of Sheridan, WY, Andrea (Frank) of
Dickinson, ND, Kelly (Dean) of Blaine, MN, and Mary (Quint) of Hudson, WI, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Viola Obritsch, and her brothers, Richard and Robert "Bob".
