October 8, 2017- October 4, 2022

Memorial Services for Deputy Ruby will be on  October 20, 2022 at 5:30pm at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel Pastor Ray Sherwood will officiate and services are open to the public.

Bowman County K9 Deputy Ruby Dooby Jane was born October 8, 2017. She was in a
litter of 5 puppies. Her lineage went back to her great grandparents through the AKC registry.
Ruby came to the Bowman County Sheriff's Office through North Iowa K9 and then-Bowman
County K9 Handler Shaine Towe. Ruby was purchased through donated funds through extensive
fundraising efforts and generous businesses and other entities. She was used on two major
busts with Handler Towe. On January 4, 2021, the K9 assignment was handed over to Bowman
County Deputy Colin Dunn. Under K9 Handler Dunn, Ruby successfully qualified through both
the National Police Canine Association and Midwest Canine Alternatives. She was certified in
Narcotics Detection, Evidence Recovery, and Tracking. She was certified in Marijuana, Cocaine,
Methamphetamine, Heroin, and Black Tar Heroin. She had 24 deployments with Deputy Dunn
finding Marijuana, Marijuana Paraphernalia, Methamphetamine, and Methamphetamine
Paraphernalia. She was also used for Public Safety Demonstrations, Health and Welfare Checks,
and numerous School Deployments.
On a routine checkup, Ruby was found to have highly aggressive liver cancer that spread
to other organs without any warning signs. She passed away in the arms of her handler the
night of October 4 th . Ruby will be greatly missed by her handler and her immediate household
family. Her loss was also devastating to her Law Enforcement Family and her Bowman County
Courthouse family. She was taken from us way too early, but we will continue to honor her
service and memory. She will always be near and dear to all of our hearts and she will always be
on patrol with Sergeant Dunn.

"Don't dwell on her being gone, feel honored to have known her."
