Ron was born on December 9, 1934, in the Reeder Hospital, to Earnest and Florence (Hovland) Donner. He was raised on the family farm 16 miles northeast of Reeder, in Darling Springs Township. He was the sixth child with eight siblings; Wallace, Mavis (Schlickheiser), Beverly (Weiler), Betty (Lien), Richard, Robert (Helen), LeRoy, and Douglas (Kathryn).
He attended grade school at Darling Springs. The family moved to Whetstone Township where he finished eighth grade. Ron then attended his high school years at Reeder Public School, graduating with the class of 1953. He then attended Dickinson Teachers College for two years. He also worked the summer months for various farmers in the area. After college, Ron taught at country schools, only to decide sitting in a classroom wasn't the wide open spaces. He moved to the Los Angeles area. He started working at a lumber yard, delivering building supplies to sites. An accident just before he turned 65, caused him to retire 25 years ago.
Ron liked to read, travel, and visit. He made numerous trips to Europe, Mexico and all over the United States. He played baseball in high school and college. He was always teased that he had a "mean pitching arm", and should be playing professional baseball.
Due to health reasons, he moved to Chehalis, Washington, and made his home with his sister Mavis for two years. Ron's love of the Black Hills of South Dakota, made him decide to move there, settling in at Rapid City. The past eight months were spent at St Martins Village Nursing Home.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Wallace,Beverly (Robert Weiler), Betty (Charles Lien), and Richard;brother-in-law G. W. Schlickheiser (Mavis); nieces Sharon and Vicky Donner, and nephews Rick Lien and Wade Donner. He is survived by siblings, Mavis, Robert (Helen), LeRoy, and Douglas (Kathryn), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Krebsback and Kulseth Funeral Service, Bowman, North Dakota, are in charge of arrangements.
