Obituary

Robert "Roy" Harris of Eastend, Sask. died on Monday, December 5, 2011 in Eastend at the Eastend Care Center. Funeral Services for Roy will be on Sunday, December 11, 2011 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Krebsbach/Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery, rural Rhame, ND. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 10 at the Krebsbach/Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel.
Roy was born on June 3, 1922 the son of Eugene and Clara (Widlund) Harris on the "banks of the Little Missouri river" in Marmarth, ND. In his mind he changed the Frenchman River name to the Little Missouri River so in his mind he died on the banks of the Little Missouri also.
Roy attended Mound Country School and graduated from Rhame High School in the Class of 1939. Roy worked for area ranchers, Lloyd Getz and Matt Walser to mention a few. He was once a Range Rider for the Amidon Grazing Association.
On March 30, 1944, Roy joined the U.S. Navy. He was a part of the Atlantic Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged on the 6th of May in 1946. After being a local cowboy for a number of years, Roy left the United States to become a "handed immigrant" in Canada in 1961. History tells us that all he declared was a 1961 Chevrolet two door with a radio, heater and windshield washers. He also had his 30-30 rifle, a saddle, a rope and some leather hand tools. Roy settled in Dawson Creek, British Columbia for several years. There he owned and operated the "Stampede Saddle Shop". Aelred and Ruth Schaefer became his family while there and their children still were a part of Roy's life. Always the cowboy, Roy became a lifetime member of the Dawson Creek Rope and Saddle Club. Roy then moved to area ranches where he helped out with the daily duties of running a ranch. His last job was around Medicine Hat, B.C. From there Roy retired and bought a house in Eastend, Sask. Wherever Roy went, he always took with him the names of some of his special horses, "Pompeii" his childhood horse, "Whiz Bang" and "Goldie". One sister described Roy as "always alone, but never lonely". Most of Roy's life he lived in the bunkhouse or in the hired hands room. His first home was when he retired and moved to Eastend 24 years ago
Roy leaves to mourn his two sisters, Maxine Stenkamp and Edna Aandrud and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends, LeAnn Gilbert and Stewart David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Clara, three brothers; one infant, Darcey and Adelbert Harris, sisters, Harriet Miller and Eilene Schaefer.

Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Services of Bowman in charge of the arrangements.
