Richard "Rick" Nelson, 65, of Bowman, ND, passed away on Monday, December 3 rd at his home. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 7 th at 6:30 PM at the Kresbach & Kulseth Funeral home chapel with reception and "toast" to be followed at the Bowman Lodge and conference center.
Rick was born in Fargo, ND on June 6 th , 1953 to Nennor and Dorothy (Kamphaug) Nelson. Rick spent his early years diligently working on the family farm near Hillsboro, ND. He was passionate about Hillsboro "Burro" sports, particularly the boys high school basketball team. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1971 and then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He graduated with a BA in Business Finance. He worked for a number of small banks in North and South Dakota before relocating to Bowman, ND. There he began working for First National Bank as a loan officer.
Rick married Jane (Biegler) in 1985 in Bowman, ND. Their union produced one daughter that he affectionately named "squirrel girl" in lieu of her formal name, Ashley. In 1994, he gave up his career in finance to purchase Twin Butte Liquor. From here the moniker "liquor Rick" was created. Rick was extremely passionate about his business (you would especially know this if you were on the blacklist for movie rentals). You always know where you stood with Rick. His bluntness and honesty knew no bounds. Rick was most remembered as being the local town jokester, liquor store aficionado, walleye slayer and fierce Golf Course warrior.
Rick is survived by his daughter: Ashley Nelson of Iowa City, IA; brother: Jim Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; sisters: Diane Weber and Sherry Renner of Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Nennor and Dorothy Nelson and brother Michael Nelson.
Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Services of Bowman in charge of the arrangements.
