Obituary

Richard J. Wegner, 62, of Bowman, ND, passed away on June 7, 2015 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman.
Memorial Services for Rick will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Mark Nygard will officiate with burial to be held at a later date.
Rick was born on March 16, 1953 in Bowman ND, the son of Gilbert and Mae (Risk) Wegner. He grew up on the family farm north of Bowman with his two brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Scranton High school in 1971. After High School Rick started working for Stuber Ranch as a Ranch Hand. Rick married Judy Meggers on October 11, 1980 in Rhame, ND. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Mellissa. After 17 years at Stubers Rick went to work for Old Reliable Tractor as a mechanic. Rick moved his family to his parent's farm to raise horses and his family. Later after having neck problems Rick left John Deere to go back to farm and ranch help at the Narum farm. Due to health issues he and Judy were forced to leave the farm and move to town.
Rick loved being outdoors. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed a good branding. If he wasn't on a horse or shooting a gun you would usually find him taking a drive or enjoying a good book. He enjoyed going to fairs and rodeos in the local area. In the winter times he enjoyed riding his snowmobile around the farm and on the Little Missouri River in Marmarth. Rick would also trap in the winter and would sell the hides. He was a cowboy at heart and loved his three horses: Spook, Leo, and Pistol. He would spend hours riding, whether it was at a branding or just for fun.
He is survived by his wife, Judy. Their two daughters: Jennifer (Chad) Hestekin of Bowman, ND; Mellissa (Alex) Stafford of Hettinger, ND; two grandchildren Devon and Stephanie Hestekin; four siblings; Duane (Audrey) Wegner of Mobridge, SD; Dean (Kathy) Wegner of Jamestown, ND; Judy Enderle of Beulah, ND, and Joan Moore of Torrington, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Mae Wegner.
