Visitation for Odell will be from 11-1 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center Chapel and from 1-5 at the Krebsbach Funeral Home Chapel and from 5-9 at the Bowman Lutheran Church. James Odell Sabe was born on March 26, 1931 in Reeder, North Dakota. Odell was the oldest of four brothers born to Oscar and Nora (Hauger) Sabe. Odell grew up on the family farm that was homesteaded in 1907. He attended and proudly received his education at the one room school house in Haley, North Dakota. Following eighth grade, Odell deferred continuing his education to pursue farming and ranching with his parents.
On July 28, 1959 Odell was united in marriage to Cathy Bergin at the Bowman Lutheran Church. They honeymooned in Lemmon, South Dakota, but the very next day he was back to harvesting his beloved land. He took great pride in his livestock and crops. Odell and Cathy farmed and ranched throughout their lives. In 1962 they built their home across the road from his parents. Odell and Cathy were blessed with three children (Joy, Jim, and Karla). They enjoyed attending the many activities that the children participated in.
Odell was very active in the community being a member of the Goldfield Township Board, the Scranton Equity Board, the Bowman County Fair Board, the Old Cars Club, Yesterday's Farmers, the Sons of Norway, the Atmospheric Resource Board, and the Bowman County Farm Bureau. Odell believed in giving back to the community in any way he could.
Odell attended the Mamre Church until its closing in 1973, and later he became a member of St John's Lutheran Church. His faith was a big part of his life. He appreciated all the blessings he received from The Lord.
Although Odell loved spending his time on the family farm, he was always ready to travel. One of his favorite places to go was Hawaii, as he enjoyed four vacations there. He loved going anywhere that was fun and exciting. Odell took great pride in his cars especially his Mustang convertible. He could often be found touring crops while cruising the countryside.
In May 1993, Cathy passed way after 33 years of marriage. Odell was blessed to find love again in 2001 with Karol Lesmeister. You could find Odell and Karol at almost any event in the community, especially if Lutefisk was being served.
Odell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He could visit for hours and always had the best jokes to share. His laugh could make anyone smile.
Odell is survived by his children Joy (Joe) Naico, Bowman, ND; Jim Sabe, Scranton ND; Karla Schmidt, Bismarck, ND; his brother Norris (Rita) Sabe, Rapid City, SD; his "Queen" Karol Lesmeister, Reeder, ND; Grandchildren Megan (Travis) Teske and Matthew Naico; Hannah, Haley, Kari, and Kate Sabe; Ambree, Landon, and Tyson Schmidt; Great-Grandchildren Nora and Beckett Teske; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Odell is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nora; his wife Cathy; and brothers Keith and Kenneth.
