Nicholas F. Schaff was born on January 19, 1947, in Mott, ND, to Nicholas Schaff and Eva Meier. At a young age, he moved from Mott to Scranton and began working at Scranton Equity, continuing until his retirement. On August 25, 1967, he married Donna M. Walch from Hettinger, ND. Their union blessed them with two wonderful sons, Allen and Brad, two cherished daughters-in-law, Deb and Shannon, and six beloved grandchildren whom he adored. Nick was a proud veteran of the National Guard and dedicated 43 years to his career at Scranton Equity until his retirement in 2008. He found great fulfillment in his work, with a strong dedication to supporting his community. In addition to his career, he operated his own pesticide service, which he maintained into retirement. Even in retirement, Nick remained dedicated to his community, spending time mowing lawns and helping others to keep Scranton looking its best. Family was the cornerstone of Nick's life. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, hobbies that brought him joy throughout his years. Nick also treasured time spent with his grandchildren, caring for his dog, and sharing coffee or a beer with friends. He never met a stranger—his friendly spirit and sharp humor turned every conversation into a lasting connection, bringing joy to those who knew him. Though he never expressed it outright, Nick's greatest joy was witnessing his sons build their own prosperous families and watching his six grandchildren grow, thrive, and head off to college. Nick was especially proud that his grandson Jordan was also serving in the military, following in his footsteps. Nick is survived by his sons, Allen (Shannon) of Loveland, CO, and Brad (Deb) of Stone Mountain, GA, as well as his six grandchildren: Alex, Jordan, Jillian, Madison, Sam, and Hannah. He is also survived by his brother Wilmer and sister Evan, both of South Carolina, and his sister-in-law Kathy of North Dakota.
