St. Luke's Nursing Home in Dickinson, ND. Melvin was born on May 26, 1946, in Baker, MT to Richard
and Geneva (Huck) Siverson and was raised south of Rhame, ND.
He attended Langberg Schoolhouse until 8 th grade and then Bowman High School where he graduated in
1965. During his freshman year (age 13) he was in a farm accident where he lost his right arm.
Influenced by the loss of his arm, Melvin decided to pursue a college degree in Special Education. He

and had 3 children, Michael, Michelle, and Melissa. After their wedding, they moved to Minot where he
continued his Special Education degree at Minot State University. After graduation, they moved to
Beulah where he taught school for 2 years. They then moved to Bowman where he taught and started
the Special Education program. Melvin worked many meaningful jobs from teaching, to parts man at
Stuber-Jensen, being that friendly face at Cenex, and a maintenance man at the Bowman Hospital.
Melvin never let the loss of his arm stop him from trying and accomplishing new things. He was always
ready to help and was part of many organizations in the community, including the weed board,
Yesterday's Farmers, teaching Skills Camp, 4-H, Badlands Ministries Board, and Hunter's Education.
He enjoyed camping and hiking with his family, doing wood working, leathercraft, meeting new people,
and serving his community.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Geneva Siverson; brothers Steven Michael
and Allen (AJ) Siverson.
Melvin is survived by his wife Linda (Ruggles); his children, Michael Siverson, Michelle (Shannon)
