Mayme Lois Loder was born to Joseph and Goldie Loder on March 13, 1923 on their family farm 8 ½ miles SW of Scranton, ND, joining a two year old brother Gordon.  As a little girl, she had a pair of bib overalls and loved to help her Dad.  She remembered going to a Christmas program, riding a sleigh, pulled by horses.  Her family was one of the first to have electric lights and a party line phone.  She and her brother Gordon were expected to do their chores.  They would walk to grade school 2 ½ miles to the Whiting School, later 3 ½ miles to Eden School.  Mayme would get nervous walking between McKitrick's bulls, one on each side of the road.  One of Mayme's favorite stories happened in 1933, when one day after harvest, her Dad announced they would take a trip to Wisconsin.  They packed a trunk, took bedding and took their old truck, with her and Gordon riding in the back.  They visited many family and friends and loaded the truck with much produce and canned goods and getting home a week after school started.  Their favorite holiday was Christmas and every other year they would go to McKitricks for Christmas or New Year, where they had lots of food and fun for all.  Mayme went to Buffalo Springs School, grades 5-11, and her senior year to Scranton, living in a dorm and graduating in 1941.  From there she went to Dickinson Teacher's College, and in 1943, she took her first teaching job north of Killdeer.  In 1944 she taught at Rocky Ridge and in 1945 in Scranton.  In September of 1945, while shopping in a local dress shop, she met Willard Johnson, who was just home from WWII.  He asked her for a date that very night, to a benefit dance at the Wilson School and the rest is history.  They were married on October 13, 1946 at the Union Prairie Church.  They honeymooned for a month traveling to Portland, OR, and California visiting family and friends, Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.  Willard and Mayme set up housekeeping in Spearfish.  In August of 1947 Linda Mae was born and Larry James in May 1949.  Shortly after this they moved up to ND.  William Joseph was born in March of 1952 and Myron Luwyne in July of 1953.  Willard and Mayme moved to Wisconsin where their children could attend a 10 grade Christian Country School.  They went into Dairy farming and in 1957 Sue Ann completed their family.  Mayme would tell how every time they moved they had a baby.  Mayme stayed busy raising her family being active in the church as the children's leader for many years.  Some of Mayme's favorite pastimes were bird watching, reading, gardening, picnics and rides in the country.  Saturday nights would be visits to Wisconsin relatives or trips to the Dairy Queen or A & W Root Beer Stand.  Mayme taught school again, in the Clear Lake SDA School in Wisconsin from 1965-1973.  At that time Willard retired from 18 years of Milking Cows and moved back to Bowman to be near Mayme's mother, Goldie Loder.  Willard sold The Farmer and Insurance and Mayme was an aide from 1978 to 1990 working with special education.  She was an active member of 3 and 1 Homemakers Club, Treasure of her church for many years and volunteered at the Bowman Pioneer Museum for over 25years.  Mayme was close to her children and was a caring and loving grandmother.  She loved to travel.  She and Willard took trips to Hawaii and the Virgin Islands and Jamaica.  They also enjoyed birding trips with their good friends Maurice and Dorothy Hansen to Texas, Colorado and Minnesota.  The last few years Willard was alive, they wintered in Overton, NV with their motor home.  While there, Mayme joined other quilting ladies and she made 10 quilts for her family.

Mayme is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Goldie, husband, James Willard and her brother Gordon Loder.  She is survived by her five children, Linda Mae of Bowman, ND, Larry (Damaris) of Marana, AZ, Bill (Nancy) of Bangor, WI, Myron (Pam) of Prairie Farm, WI and Suzi Eldringhoff of Bowman, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mayme had a beautiful faith and personal relationship with God.  She was an inspiration to her family and friends.  She now rests until that glorious morning Jesus returns to take his children home.
