Lynda Jo Arithson (4/5/1949 - 2/11/2026)
Lynda Arithson passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, at the age of 76.
Lynda was born on April 5, 1949, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Lynn and Ethel Sedevie. She attended and graduated from Bowman High School in 1967.
Later that year, Lynda married David Arithson of Rhame, ND, and the couple made their home on David's family ranch south of Rhame. Together they welcomed two children, Heidi and Jason. After several years on the ranch, the family moved to Bowman, where Lynda became involved in the community, lending her time to St. Charles Catholic Church, High School Rodeo and other local events. She worked full- and part-time positions at several local businesses, including Bennett Rexall Drug, Bowman Economic Development Corporation, and Bonnie Anderson's dental office.
One of her first ventures was opening and operating the Fabric Inn, a fabric store in Bowman — an accomplishment she was very proud of. Later, David and Lynda managed the Red Dog Saloon in downtown Bowman, a lively gathering place where there was always music, dancing, and laughter.
David and Lynda eventually moved to Rapid City, SD, but continued to divide their time between there and Buffalo, SD.
Those fortunate enough to know Lynda will remember her as a creative, giving, humorous, strong-willed woman, and a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. An exceptional cook and baker, Lynda was known and loved for the many memorable meals she prepared for holidays and gatherings. Her family feels incredibly fortunate to carry her legacy through the recipes she passed down.
A deeply gifted seamstress and crafter, Lynda excelled at sewing, knitting, and all forms of needlework. Her family treasures the handmade legacy she leaves behind — from quilts and afghan blankets to scrapbooks and intricate 3D layered framed pictures. Beyond crafting, Lynda loved playing cards, riding motorcycles, travelling and doting on the beloved dogs she and David raised together over the years.
Lynda is survived by her children, Heidi (Chris) Olson of Spearfish, SD, and Jason (Hattie) Arithson of Broadus, MT; her siblings, Lynette (Les) Schaefer of Rhame, ND, and Loren (Trish) Sedevie of Rapid City, SD; and her grandchildren, Austin (Alzada) Arithson, Alexi (John) Sokolowski, Drew (Laura Kate) Arithson, Nicholas Gusso, Bailey (Layne) Frank, Gunner Bice, Grayson Arithson, and Elliott Olson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, Lynn and Ethel; and her sister, LaDyne.
