Lyle Mikal Parfrey (Nate) was born August 10, 1947 with his twin brother Lester in Belle Fourche to Junior and Dorothy (Iverson) Parfrey. He died May 23, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.
Lyle attended school in Buffalo, but was much more interested in working with his father and mother in the plumbing and electrical business.
On June 10, 1967 he married Gail Tennant. Their children, Jedd and Shelly were a constant source of enjoyment and "entertainment" to him.
In response to the first oil influx in Harding County, Lyle started Parfrey Inc., an oil field roustabout service company. Nate was very proud of the tank batteries and locations that he and his crews built in South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. When the oil field crashed in the 80's he and his crews painted, repaired and did whatever was needed in the Buffalo community.
Lyle married Monica Brengle on June 15, 1984. They spent 30 years together not only as husband and wife, but also as best friends, sharing many memories, sites and new adventures.
His love of life and a new adventure lead him to build a 39 foot steel hull trawler at his shop in Buffalo. This spectacle sometimes slowed traffic to a near stop on Highway 85 and drew in lots of visitors.
In 1987, he sold his business and went to British Columbia where he commissioned, and helped build a 42 foot steel hull sailboat which he christened "Erna" (old English for Sea Eagle). For many years Lyle and Monica sailed the west coast from San Francisco to LaCante Glacier, Alaska. Their adventures in Alaska provided may stories for him to tell about fishing, hunting, hiking, bears and their dog, Rough. One of the many stories he liked to tell was making ice cream using the bergie bits from the glacier.
They moved to Tacoma WA and bought two sawmills. It was here that he started NorthWest Woods and sold specialty wood to people all over the world. People would stop to buy wood and learn new wood working techniques.
In 2002, they moved back to Harding County and started Brush Creek Trading. His creativity and skill produced many fine things from furniture to knives. Many friends and neighbors enjoyed having coffee and look at the new things he was building. He worked for several area ranchers and his brother, Larry.
He loved to have a new hill to climb or some new skill to acquire. He made new friends in all the places he visited. Nate quickly became a master at anything he undertook.
Nate was preceded in death by daughter Shelly Talton, son Jedd (Charlie) Parfrey, brothers Lester Parfrey and Lawrence Parfrey, parents Junior and Dorothy Parfrey. He is survived by wife Monica Parfrey, daughter in-law Marilyn Parfrey, son in-law Garrett Talton, grand-daughter Tommi (Jesse) Glines, great-grand daughters Mya and Lilyana Glines, sister Jeanette (Joel) Coulter, brothers Jim Parfrey, Stan (Carol) Parfrey, Larry (Ann) Parfrey, sister Dorothy Parfrey, Nephew/Protégé, Tucker Brengle and numerous nieces and nephews.
