Lois Marguerite Erickson was born on December 5, 1936 at home in Harding County, South Dakota. Her dad went to get the doctor, but she arrived before the doctor did. Growing up, she lived on the family farm near Haley SD, about 1/2 mile from the Grand River. In the summer she enjoyed swimming in the river and in the winter ice skating. Lois worked hard her entire life, first at her childhood home, weeding the garden, digging potatoes, and helping with the chickens and cows. At age 11, she started working for neighbors every summer until she got married. She would cook, clean, and take care of their homes and kids. She attended grade school in Haley and high school in Scranton ND, graduating in 1955. While attending high school, she met her husband, Richard, at a dance. They got married in Baker, MT, in November of 1955. They made their first home at the Nesse farm, south of Reeder, and later moved to the farm north of Reeder, where she lived the remainder of her life. Lois was a devoted wife to Richard and loving mom to her five children. She was known for her good cooking, especially her potato salad. She enjoyed golf and bowling and won a championship bowling trophy. She was an active member of the community, serving on the school board and Ladies Aid at the church. She supported her children, attended many sporting events and allowed the four boys to play a rousing game of basketball in the kitchen every night after supper with a homemade hoop that was hanging above the basement door. She always demonstrated and instilled strong values of hard work, faith, and education in her children. After retiring from active farming, Lois and Richard enjoyed traveling with their children and grandchildren. The family farm was always a welcome gathering place for the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to be reunited and spend time together. Lois struggled with illnesses the last several years of her life and fought hard to stay with us. We can all take comfort in knowing that she is at peace now and no longer in pain. Lois will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends, and community.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Francis Erickson, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pauline and Gottlieb Schwartz, daughter-in-law Nikki Schwartz, two brothers, Merle and Wayne Erickson, brothers- and sisters-in-law Edward, Fritz (JoAnn), and Donnie (Nola) Schwartz, Bob Bohne, Harry Flatz, John Fisher, Marjorie (Roger) Anderson, Dorothy (Walt) Hoff, Darlene (Alton) Finck, and Harry Koppinger.
