Leonard passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the West River Medical Center, Hettinger, ND
in presence of his family and friends.
Leonard Joseph "Lenny" Jacobs was born at home near Regent, ND to Jacobus Quirinus (J.Q.)  and
Goldie Violet (Davison) Jacobs on June 19, 1928. He was the oldest of the "little boys" and one of six
brothers and five sisters. Lenny attended boarding school at St Mary's School in New England, ND
and graduated in 1946.
Lenny met the love of his life, Carol (Olson), at a dance in New England and they were married on
October 26, 1953. During the 70 years of marriage, they raised two girls and three boys on their farm
south of Reeder. Lenny was a family man. He enjoyed school events and taking the kids fishing and
camping especially with other families and friends. Lenny continued to attend games and concerts as
he followed his grandkids activities, and loved to tell them jokes or stories with a twinkle in his eye.
Lenny had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed the company of friends. He enjoyed fishing, playing
cards, bowling, and golf, although what he liked to do best was visit, ideally one-on-one. Lenny was
an optimist and often said, "Every day is a good day, some are better than others."
Known for singing in a tractor or barn, he was a part of The Happy Wonderers men singing group
which performed at many events in the area. As a man of faith, Lenny was a member of Sacred Heart
Church and song leader with Carol as the organist. He sang while she played for over six decades.
Lenny farmed all his life, but his passion was serving the community which combined was over 100
years of service. Lenny was a North Dakota State Representative; Adams County Commissioner;
Southwest Water Authority Board Member, Badlands Social Services and Adams County Welfare
Board Member. Lenny was also actively involved with K of C, Lions Club, and other church or
community organizations. Recently when reminiscing about his time as an elected official, Lenny
said, "Everyone has a right to be heard, it is our job to listen. You don't have to agree but you have to
listen."
Lenny is survived his wife, Carol; son-in-law Ben Eaton; children Gary (Peg) Jacobs, Paul (Jolene)
Jacobs, Marilee (Bob) Wokal, Jay (Kathy) Jacobs; grandchildren Jonathon (Ria) Eaton, Justin (Anna)
Eaton, Jeni (Alex) Radway, Luke Jacobs, Alec (Morgan) Jacobs, Megan Jacobs, Grant Jacobs,

Leonard is also survived by one brother, Alton (Leona) Jacobs, sisters-in-law Marlene Olson and
