Larry, known as "Tubie," was born August 26, 1955 in Ekalaka, Montana, to Harry and Elsie Turbiville. He was the youngest of four kids. Larry grew up on the foothills of the Long Pines in Camp Crook, SD until May of 1961 when they moved to the farm south of Marmarth. He went to Sunny Slope Country school until the 8 th grade where he rode his horse uphill both ways. He was an active member of the 101 4-H club and also enjoyed wrestling. He went to high school in Baker, MT where he graduated with the class of 1973. After graduation he joined the Milwaukee Railroad where he worked on the B and B crew. After several years on the railroad, he then went to work in the oilfield, where he worked on the drilling rigs for Nobel and Bomac. In 1979 he married Doneta Austin and had three boys Duaine, Larry C., and J.D. They moved to the ranch and worked alongside his father, Harry, until he purchased it in 1987. When they sold the ranch in 1999, Larry then went back to the oilfield where he worked for Nabors Drilling, Doug's Welding and Pipeline, C&M, and F&D Oilfield Service. He was a member of the Marmarth Fire Department for nearly 20 years, serving as chief for several of those years.
In 2000 he married Linda Kromarek and to that union he gained three wonderful stepchildren Blaine, Tami, and Lisa. That same year, they purchased L&L service station in Bowman, ND. In 2011, he moved back to Camp Crook where he worked for various ranchers and especially enjoyed working with Jesse and Kim Bail. Larry retired in 2017 to the town of Dunseith, ND and lived next door to his sister Mary. He enjoyed his final years living close to Mary and his friends in Dunseith. He was truly loved wherever he went.
Tubie was a man with a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody and was always willing to run wherever help was needed. He always worked hard and made sure to have fun doing it, even if he there were a few curse words said and maybe a few tools thrown. It was usually followed with a smile and a laugh. He had many friends along the way and they all have a Tubie story to tell. He took great joy in being able to ranch and work the oilfields along side his three boys. He was proud of who his boys grew up and became, each in their own unique way.
Tubie is survived by his mother, Elsie; sons, Duaine (Brandi), Larry (Sara) and J.D. Turbiville; grandkids, Kayla (Frankie) Turbiville, John Turbiville; siblings, James (Sheryl) Turbiville, Walter Holden (Beverly) Turbiville and Mary Kraft; step children, Blaine Kromarek, Tami Kromarek and Lisa Kromarek and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry and niece Angel Darlene.
