Lance A. Schaar, 62, died unexpectedly of natural causes, at his Williston residence on January 18, 2020.

Memorial Services for Lance will be on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierce Congregational Church, rural Scranton, ND. Pastor Mary Wiggins will officiate with burial to be held at a later date.

Lance A. Schaar was born on November 1, 1957, the youngest of five children to Roy and Alta Schaar.  His early education was at the 2-room Woodberry country school; later, he graduated from Scranton High School.  He attended Wapheton S.S.S., becoming an electronic technician.  He was employed by office supply businesses located in Bismarck and Williston, N.D.  He consistently upgraded his skill set for his trade, traveling, out of state, to CA, CT ,TX, GA, and CO for seminars.

Lance's hobby was reading, especially the Encyclopedia Britannica, and he was in demand as a trivia team player at family gatherings.  Family was important to him and in 2011, he was fortunate to visit the Barstad farmstead of his great-grandfather in Konsmo, Norway.  He enjoyed the solitude of long walks and was able to stroll the same green hills of his ancestors, and imagine life as it was a century ago.

Lance is survived by his mother, Alta Barstad Schaar, brothers, Mark (Judy) Schaar and family, Scott (Margaret) Schaar and Family; sisters, Susan (Tim) Layden and Family, Cynthia (Barry) Schaar-Bentz and Family, also survived by aunts, uncles and numerous close cousins.
