Obituary

John G. Fischer, 46, of Dickinson, ND, passed away on November 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and the physical presence of family members. Born on February 2, 1979, in Bowman, North Dakota, John was the youngest son of Janet (Steiber) Fischer and LeRoy "Roy" Fischer. He joined his two older brothers, Adam and Eric, completing a trio of boys who shared years of laughter, hard work, and lifelong memories.

From an early age, John carried an enthusiasm for life that was impossible to miss. He loved basketball, had a natural stage presence in high school plays, and never missed a chance to cheer on his beloved Minnesota Vikings. Known for his flashy shirts and signature sense of humor, John brought brightness both literally and figuratively wherever he went.

Throughout his life, John held a variety of careers that highlighted his dedication, curiosity, and wide-ranging talents. He spent years at ACE Hardware in Spearfish, where his wealth of knowledge made him a trusted source of advice for those tackling projects big and small. He worked alongside his dad and brothers in residential construction, later joining Adam in road construction. His proudest professional accomplishment came when he became an engineer for the WATCO Railroad, a role he took on with immense pride.

In mid-2023, John was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. This unexpected and devastating illness led to two years of frequent hospitalizations, declining health, and ultimately multisystem organ failure. Despite these challenges, John faced every setback with courage, humor, and a stubborn determination that inspired all who walked beside him during his battle.

As accomplished as John was in his work and interests, nothing in his life mattered more to him than being a father. Becoming a dad was, in his own words and actions, his greatest joy. He loved watching his children grow, learn, and become their own unique selves. His eyes lit up whenever he talked about them; his world was truly shaped by the love he had for them.

John will be remembered for his intelligence, his quick wit, generosity, and the humor that could lighten even the heaviest of moments. He had a generous heart, always willing to help, teach, or listen. His presence filled every room he entered, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his fiancé, Charlie; his mother, Janet; his brothers, Adam (Donna) and Eric (Sherri); his beloved children, Macale, Victoria, Chayse, Emersynn, Hadley, and Johnathon; Aunts and Uncles: Diana (Tom) Langlee, Vince Steiber, Glenora (Tim) Ridl, Jim (Kathy) Ihly, and Victor Hellman.

John was welcomed into Heaven by those who preceded him, including his father, Roy; paternal grandparents, John and Elma Fischer; maternal grandparents, Glen and Bernadine Ihly; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
