There will be a funeral service on Monday January 20, 2020 at 10:00am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Scranton, ND with burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Joanne was born on September 18, 1964 in Dickinson, ND to John Gerhart and Donna Mae Majer. As a child, she enjoyed spending time at her grandparents' home at Lake Ilo with her aunts and uncles. At a young age, she started babysitting for families. In school, Joanne lived for her art and music classes;both were areas where she excelled. She graduated from Dickinson High School in 1983.

Joanne married the love of her life, Roger Bartholmy, on December 15, 1984. They settled down on the family farm north east of Scranton. During this time, Joanne and Roger raised six children: Jessica, Rachel, Andrew, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, and Brian. She was a homemaker and childcare provider who dedicated her life to raising her children which goes far beyond the ones that she gave birth to. Her big heart gave her a special ability to care deeply for children and people in general. She always had a listening ear and loved to visit with people.

Joanne enjoyed baking goodies, especially at Christmas time. She was well known for her beautifully decorated sugar cookies, gingerbread houses, and caramels. On the farm, she helped care for the animals. She would help dad with a calf that needed to be warmed. She raised several batches of bum lambs, kittens, chickens, and our family dog got to have her puppies in our house. There is not a species of animal on the farm that hasn't been in the kitchen at some point in time. She grew several gardens where she would hand pick all of the weeds. She loved to shovel snow as it was an activity that got her out of the house.

Joanne created a warm and loving home where everyone was welcome. She made sure that her children were taken care of and taught us to be strong. She will be dearly missed.

Joanne is survived by her husband Roger of Scranton, ND; children Jessica (Scott) Clark of Mandan, ND; Rachel (John) Schaible of Mott, ND; Andrew (Julia) of Lincoln, ND; Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, and Brian all of Scranton, ND; grandchildren Shawn Clark, Kathrine and Krya Theurer, Landon Schaible, father John Gerhart of Great Falls, MT; sister Sandra (Daryl) Lee of Lawton, ND; brother Dan Gerhart of Dickinson, ND; brothers-in-law James Bartholmy of Scranton, ND; David Bartholmy of Ankeny, IA; sister-in-law Alice Wahl of Bismarck, ND; nieces and nephews Elisha (Dave) Nash, Paula (Casey) Holte, Danielle Maychrzak, Tonya (Brad) Rohl, Josh Raab, Adam Wahl, and Victoria Wahl and several great nieces and nephews.
