JoAnn Marie Sarsland, born January 1st, 1941 was the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Johnson) Newlander. She grew up 10 miles East of Ludlow, SD with her siblings. She attended grade school in Norbeck, SD and helped her parents on the ranch until she married. On January 13, 1959 she married the love of her life, Lloyd Sarsland in Rapid City, SD. While living on the Sarsland Homestead they raised 6 children; Roxanne, Rocky, Ricky, Richard, Reuben, and Ruby. They raised everything including Peacocks, Sheep, Cows, Pigs, Turkeys, Chickens and some good dogs throughout the years making many memories. In her younger years JoAnn enjoyed playing baseball and riding horseback. She later continued her love of baseball by playing with her kids and grandkids out in the yard and watching the World Series. You could find her out in the field swathing which she loved to do. She would always remind you that she loved her swather, which had no air conditioning or a cab, but just the "good old" wind and an umbrella. She also loved doing chores, watching the baby lambs play and run on the sand rocks, playing games on the computer, being in the lambing barn, and going for rides on her four wheeler. She was a quiet person but could also make sure she was heard. She also enjoyed her trips to Deadwood, SD. whether it was on the bus, Mother's Day trips, or for her birthday with family and friends, but especially with her sister Marcella. It always seemed like she came out ahead. She worked in Ludlow waitressing and cooking for many years. She met a lot of different people coming through there with stories to tell. She was a wonderful listener. She was the best "Grams" anyone could ask for and her eyes sparkled anytime she talked about or was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to Ranch with her 2 kids, Richard and Ruby on the Sarsland Ranch. She was always proud when their sheep took Championship at the Fair and was always wearing her prized coat to prove it! She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grams, and Friend and will be deeply missed by many but never forgotten.

She is survived by her Daughter, Roxanne(Kevin) Miller, Rocky (Laura) Sarsland, Ricky (Brenda) Sarsland, Richard Sarsland, Ruby Sarsland, Nephews, Nieces, and dog Jack.
