Joan Elaine Kosmicki was born in Adams County, September 16, 1937, to Kitty and Steve Kosmicki. She grew up on the family farm and ranch in Harding County, SD and attended Vessey Grade School. She graduated from Bowman High School in 1955; attended college in Jamestown, ND and Spearfish, SD. Joan taught for one year at a Harding County rural school and lived with the Vroman families during that time.

Joan married Darrell Stebbins on May 3, 1958, in Bowman, ND after he returned from serving in the Army. She worked at Bennett Drug and the First National Bank until, with great joy, they welcomed their two adopted children, Daniel Lee in 1964 and Julie Ann in 1966. Joan was happiest when surrounded by family, especially her kids and grandaughter. She loved all kids. Joan and Darrell purchased Bowman Paint and Glass in 1961, and worked together for the next 35 years until their retirement in 1996. Since October, 2007, Joan has been well cared for by the wonderful staff at the Heritage Center. She and Darrell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Joan remained at the Heritage Center until her death on March 22, 2010.

Joan will always be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, her sense of humor, and her generous nature in always putting others needs before her own.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Darrell; son, Dan of Bismarck, ND; grandaughter and son-in-law, Christina and Andre Cormeier of Euless, TX; two sisters and their families, Linda and Norman Sheeets of Bismarck, ND and Margie and Perry Nolan of Hermosa, SD; cousins, neices, nephews and many friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Kitty and Steve Kosmicki; two brothers, Roger and Jerry Kosmicki; and daughter, Julie Cormeier.
