Joan Muriel Erickson was born in Superior Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Lillian (Halivison) Erickson on June 6, 1934. Joan was the only child due to John passing away due to a drowning accident in 1933. When Joan was only 5 ½ months old, Lillian brought her to Bowman, ND, to live with family. Lillian remarried in 1940 to Marshall Trainor. Marshall was the only father Joan knew and he was amazing father figure to Joan. Joan even went by Joan Train Marshall and Lillian had 4 more children; Marsha, Larry, Marlene and Sharon "Shug". After high school at Bowman High School, Joan married Henry C. Soehren at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. To this union, 3 children were born; Patrick Neil, Monte Ray, and Mark Wayne. Joan and Henry later divorced in 1972.
After Joan's kids were grown, she worked at the St. Luke's Tri State Hospital as a dietary cook for 10years. She moved to Wyoming to be closer to her son Mark and family. While there, she found a job where she cooked for 5 years at a drug and alcohol recovery center. St. Luke's in Bowman called Joan Back to work for them once again, so Joan moved back to Bowman, and worked at St. Luke's for several years. Joan came down with Whooping Cough and eventually had to give up her job. She really enjoyed her time with the employees and the residents over the years. She enjoyed making buns for the residents and always enjoyed her time there. She loved to bake, being around her grandkids, her coffee time with friends and she collected dolls and chickens. Joan was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Joan is survived by her son; Patrick Soehren, Monte (Susan) Soehren, and Mark Soehren, grandchildren; Mandy Stedman, Erik Soehren, Chelsey Soehren, Christopher Soehren, Kaycee Soehren, Dustin Hansey and Chase Soehren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents; John Erickson, Lillian and Marshall Trainor, sisters Marsha Schaff, Marlene Baker, brother; Larry Trainor, sister-in-law; Betsy Ann Trainor, brother-in-law; Chuck Baker, grandson; Dustin Soehren, niece and nephew Kevin and Krystal Baker.
