Obituary

Jo R. Fischer, 88, of Rhame, ND passed away on July 31, 2014 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman.

Mass of Christian Burial for Jo will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the St. Mel's Catholic Church in Rhame. Fr. David Morman will celebrate the Mass with burial to follow in the Tuttle Cemetery, Rhame.

Josephine Ruth Beier was born December 6, 1925, to David J. and Lucy (Gazeley) Beier. She was second oldest of six children. Jo grew up south of Rhame, and attended Adelaide School, back when transportation was a horse and buggy. Jo attended and graduated from Rhame High School. While in high school she roomed in Rhame with a family that took in country kids. There she had a new roommate, Doris Jones, who became her lifelong friend and eventually a very special sister-in-law. Jo married Raymond Fischer on December 29, 1943, at St. Mel's Catholic Church in Rhame. They bought the John and Mary Fischer homestead, beginning farm life with a dairy delivering milk and cream to the local families of Rhame, raised sheep, and crops, when the rains were good. But more importantly raising their eight children—Dick, JoAnn, John, Susan, Mike, Trish, Roger, and Wayne.
Jo spent many hours in her garden and flowerbeds, sewing, baking, crocheting and making rugs. She was active in the Rhame American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mel's Altar Society. Jo and Ray's home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a meal, or a cup of coffee. Jo's bread became legendary, her quilts kept many warm, the woven rugs kept many feet comfortable and her crocheted doilies decorated many a table.
After retirement Jo and Ray spent winters in Rio Hondo, Texas where they enjoyed another extended family, especially Alice and Thad Magyar. After Ray's death in 1990, Jo moved off the farm to be near her children in Watford City and Missoula and later returned to Rhame.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, grandson Wade Erickson, sisters Marilyn Schlosser, Phyllis Dobbs, and brother Bill Beier.
Jo is survived by her children Dick (Rita) Fischer of Piedmont, SD; JoAnn (Leland) Erickson of Rhame, ND;
John (Ev) Fischer of Joliet, MT; Susan (Ben) Cumming of Boaz, AL; Mike (Kelly) Fischer of Great Falls, MT,
Trish Fischer (Calvin Myers) of Frenchtown, MT; Roger Fischer of Pringle, SD; and Wayne (Julie) Fischer of Great Falls, MT. Jo also enjoyed the love of 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The last bun has been baked, the last quilt has been quilted, the last rug has been woven and our Mom is finally at peace. We love you Mom.
