Jim was born on May 15th, 1948, to Harry and Hazel (Johnson) Stebbins in Bowman, ND, the youngest of four boys. Jim and his brothers, along with the neighborhood kids, kept the neighbors entertained with their constant shenanigans.
In his early years, Jim spent time helping on his uncle Emery Stebbins's farm. He spent many hours riding his horses and often would tell stories of his adventures to town on horseback with his cousins and friends. In high school, Jim enjoyed playing basketball and continued to play after high school in a men's rec league.
After graduating high school in 1966, Jim joined the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1969 to 1970. He was given the job of being a transport hauler, hauling diesel, helicopter fuel, and retrieving broken down trucks. He enjoyed his time in Germany especially driving on the Autobahn and his trip to Denmark during leave.
He married Jan Brooks on December 2nd, 1972, at the United Methodist Church in Bowman. In 1977 they welcomed their first child, Tanya, followed by Carrie in 1980. He enjoyed his girls, attending their school activities and supporting their love of horses as much as possible. The family spent many nights at the Dakota Winds Arena in Bowman participating in horse 4-H, team roping club and drill team.
Jim owned his own trucking company for several decades. He hauled many types of livestock, including ostriches and elk. Jim also took pride in his custom stack mover business, one time hauling a small airplane. He enjoyed trucking and spent manyhours behind the wheel, meeting many different people along the way.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jan Stebbins, daughters Tanya (Cory) Steffan and Carrie (Travis) Miller, grandchildren Leah and Abby Steffan and AJ and Alex Miller; brother Frank (Bonnie) Stebbins; and uncle, Bill Stebbins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hazel and brothers, Duane and Darrell.
