James "Jim" Keith Hestekin passed away peacefully at his rural family farm on December 4, 2023. He was born on February 5, 1942 to Arthur and Olga (Hanson) Hestekin in Bowman. He grew up on the family farm where he lived nearly his entire life. He attended grade school at Buffalo Springs country school. He graduated from Bowman High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Ardis Narum, in 1963. To this union were born 3 daughters and a son.
Jim and Ardis worked for Donnie Brown on a dairy farm for a few years before returning to the family farm, starting their own dairy. After years of dairy farming they started ranching Gelbvieh cattle. Over the years they also raised pigs, sheep, chickens, and pheasants.
Jim liked people. He didn't have to walk very far to find a friend to talk to. He and Ardis thoroughly enjoyed following their kids and grandkids in sports and activities through the years, traveling hundreds of miles for a half an hour concert, game, or run. He shared many hobbies with friends and family including bowling, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ardis; his children: Wanda (Wes) Miller, Kristi (Leonard) Krebs, Jay (Cindy) Hestekin, and Betty (Eric) Schill; 10 grandkids: Jacob (Kaylee) Krebs, Britt(Diane) Miller, Ashley (Ryan) Rebel, Paige(Shawn) Sanford, Jarett (Kaitlyn) Hestekin, Taylor (Derek) Myers, Megan(Dawson) Brost, Danielle Schill, Kevin Schill, and Aaron Schill; 12 great grandkids; his sisters Lorraine (Ray) Baker, and Lavonne (Jack) Ervin; and several nephews and nieces and sister-in-law Doris Buchholz.
He was preceded in death by his parents Art and Olga Hestekin, infant sister Betty, and infant nephew Nathan and brother-in-law Neil Buchholz.
He had the gift of making others feel at ease and welcome. Jim and Ardis liked to support the local community events and people. In this spirit, memorials may be given to any local organization of your choice.
