Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 23, 2010 beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Jan was born on March 29, 1929, in Bowman, the daughter of Elmer and Lillian
(Oby) Johnson. She was raised and attended school in Rhame, North Dakota. As a
child, she loved getting up early in the morning to accompany her grandfather,
Jasper, down to the railroad tracks to see the trains come in. She also spent many
hours with her grandmother, Hulda, as she worked in her flower gardens. She
worked at the Bank of Rhame for several years when she was a young woman.
Jan married Cy Fulton in Rhame on January 4, 1951. They lived in Amidon until
1954, when they moved to Bowman. She was in a bowling league for several
years and enjoyed the neighborhood birthday club. She loved to bake, and her
family was especially fond of her caramel rolls and pies. She was also known for
her wild game feeds. She liked gardening, and spent several summers camping at
the farm in Amidon, raising a huge garden of vegetables and flowers. She liked to
sew and made most of her daughters' clothes as they grew up. She made many
quilts for her family and their friends. She loved to decorate her house for special
occasions and was probably the biggest "kid" at Christmas. Fall was her favorite
season, but she also enjoyed a howling blizzard. Jan adored her dogs, Smokey and
Duffy, and treated them like royalty. She was a generous woman who always
cheered for the underdog. Throughout her life, she had a remarkable sense of humor, and was known for her quick wit. She enjoyed playing word games and
spent countless hours working crossword puzzles, even though she encountered
many health challenges since 1987. She was also an enthusiastic pinochle player,
who could never give up the bid.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by the following family members, who will miss her greatly: her husband, Cy, of Bowman, ND;
daughters: Cris Fulton of Bowman, ND, Gwynne (Tim) Smith, of Lodgepole, SD,
Cindy Wilcox of Bismarck, ND; sister: Sandie Johnson of LaGrange, Georgia;
brother: Bob Johnson of Moline, Illinois; sister-in-law: Jackie (Larry) Nelson of
Miles City, Mt; grandchildren: Kyle Smith of Spearfish, SD, Josh Smith of Fort
Worth, TX, Jeff Smith of Spearfish, SD, Ryan (Jamie) Wilcox of Riverton, WY,
Chad (Rhonda)Wilcox of Greensboro, NC; Great-grandchildren: Cameron, Josh,
and Nathaniel Wilcox of Riverton, WY and several nieces and nephews.
