Irene J. Negaard's Obituary
Irene J. Negaard, 101, of Belle Fourche, SD, formerly of Buffalo, SD passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Belle Fourche Health Care Center in Belle Fourche.
Funeral Services for Irene will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Grand River Lutheran Church in Buffalo beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Marge Hershey will officiate and burial will follow in the Buffalo Cemetery.
Irene Juliet (Sabo) Negaard was born on May 20, 1909 to Nels and Anna Sophia (Peterson) Sabo at Reva, SD. Irene received her education in a country school near Reva until attending high school in Bucyrus, ND and Reeder, ND. Irene married Clarence Negaard at Selby, SD, on June 27, 1929 and they were blessed with 73 years of marriage. Together they Homesteaded northeast of Reva, SD, where Clarence worked for local Ranchers and Irene worked at the Reva Store. Later they moved into Buffalo where Clarence worked for the County, Rayford Robins, Buffalo Electric and also as a local carpenter.
In 2008, Irene moved from her home that she and Clarence built together, and she became a resident of the Belle Fourche Health Care Center, she was not only a resident, but this was her home. She enjoyed her days there and the loving care she received each day. Irene entertained the residents with her daily piano playing. Irene was always very active in her church as an organist, the choir, Sunday School teacher and her Bible Study.
Clarence and Irene were the parents of three sons, Stanley (Mary Lea) Negaard of Rock Valley, IA, Norm Negaard of Buffalo, SD, and Sherrill (Gloria) Negaard of Peabody, KS. They had nine grandchildren; Roger (Jodi) of Rock Valley, IA, Kevin of Sioux City, IA, Mark of Hawarden, IA, Heather of Sioux Falls, SD, Tanna of Pierre, SD and Birch of Sundance, WY, Robin and Larry of Peabody, KS, 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Agner and Wilma Negaard of Rapid City, SD, and sister-in-law, Gert Negaard of Duluth, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Anna Sabo, husband Clarence, daughter-in-law, Sherry, and a brother, Irving.
