Helen D. Norton, 82 of Bowman, ND, formerly of Buffalo, SD passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman, ND.

Funeral Services for Helen will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Grand River Lutheran Church in Buffalo, SD. Pastor Susan Fox will officiate with burial to follow in the Buffalo Cemetery.

Helen Dorothy Johnson was born on October 27, 1927 in Reeder, ND, the daughter of John R. and Nina (Klovdahl) Johnson. She grew up on a ranch close to Sorum, SD and attended grade school close to home. Helen attended two years of High School at Sorum High School until it closed and then graduated from Buffalo High School in 1944. She also attended a year of college at the National School of Business in Rapid City.
Helen was married to Floyd Norton on August 10, 1947 at Buffalo, SD. Two daughters were born to this union, Karen Lee in 1950 and Linda Kay in 1953. Helen worked at numerous jobs in Buffalo, including the First State Bank, County Agents Office, County Library and lastly Pioneer Bank and Trust. Helen was a member of the Grand River Lutheran Church where she was the organist for over 60 years, a choir member, Dove Circle Ladies Aid and a member of the quilters group. She also belonged to the Buffalo Lions Club and Harding County Senior Citizens. Other hobbies included sending cards and letters, doing word find and crossword puzzles, quilting and embroidery. Helen loved having her family close by and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her 5th great granddaughter who is due Dec. 9th to Jenny and Ole Sjomeling.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Karen and Joe Wilkinson of Reva, SD and Linda and John Humbracht of Camp Crook, SD, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Bob Wilkinson of Buffalo, SD, Jennifer, Ole and baby girl Sjomeling of Rapid City, SD, Jeremy, Robin, Shania and Kendra Humbracht and Lori, Brian, Jacie and Kylie Teller all of Buffalo, SD, in-laws, Lloyd and Juanita Norton of Hayward, CA, Peg Johnson of Reeder, ND, and Virginia Norton of Hot Springs, SD, also numerous nieces and nephews survive.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Floyd on Jan. 9, 1984, partents John R. and Nina Johnson, granddaughter, Tracie Lee Wilkinson on July 9, 1975, sister Adelyn Gullickson and brothers, Harold, Edgar and Ralph Johnson.
