Gordon Teske was born August 12, 1923 on the farm northeast of Scranton
in Cedar Creek Township, the youngest of four children of Otto and Stella
(Emmerich) Teske. He attended grade school at Cedar Creek near their
home. He graduated from high school in Reeder, ND in 1941. After
graduation Gordon bought a truck and hauled grain, hay and coal saving
enough to buy his first quarter of land. Education was very important to
him. He was on the Scranton School Board for many years. All of his
children were expected to go on to college after high school.
Gordon married Helen Jones on November 26, 1949 in a double wedding
ceremony with his brother Lloyd who married Doris Stafford. Their first
home was a small trailer house on the Teske farm. In 1952 they built a
two bedroom home on the same acreage and as the family got larger they
built on an addition in 1962.
In 1981 Gordon and Helen built a house in Scranton where he proudly
transplanted pine trees from the farm. "What's the good word?" was the
greeting and you could find him almost every morning at the cafe ordering
a pancake and a patty and playing a few cards with the locals before
headed north to supervise the boys on the farm. He was proud of the farm
and was awarded the Slope-Hettinger Soil Conservation Award in 1982.
Helen passed away in 1986 and Gordon married Edith Jagim Jamieson on
August 1, 1987. The number of children and grandchildren doubled in size.
Gordon was active in the community and state being a member on the Sunset
Home Board, Sunrise Foundation, Cedar Creek Township Board, Slope County
Fair Board, Scranton School Board, Scranton Equity Board, Grain Growers
Association, Farm Bureau and Wheat Commission. He was a part owner of
Scranton Grain. He was a staunch Republican supporting the state and
national associations. He was active in the Pierce Congregational Church
serving as a treasurer, trustee, deacon and delegate to state
conferences. Every year you would find him at various church dinners, the
School of Promise auction and Sunset Bazaar enjoying the food, visiting
and running up the bids at the auctions. He strongly believed in his
community and giving back to the community.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Edith, sister, Frances Hedman, his
children: Georgia Lundquist (Jim), Gary (Janiene), Bonnie Anderson
(Zane), Tom (Marlene), Mike (Carla); her children: Roger (Sue), Ryan
(Julie), Karla Miller (Jim), Ross (Gina), Rusel (Becky), 26
grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and his good friend, Jim Stafford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen and brothers,
Willis and Lloyd.
