Obituary

Goldie L. Loder of Bowman, ND, formerly of Spearfish, SD, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman. Graveside services for Goldie will be held at 10:00 a.m on Friday January 28, 2011 at the Buffalo, SD cemetery.

Goldie Lenore Westerskow was born on November 30, 1926 in Rice Lake Wisconsin, the daughter of Nels and Nellie Westerskow (Simonsen). She received her education at the rural school near her parent's ranch and graduated from Buffalo High School. After completing high school Goldie attended Spearfish Teaching College. Upon attaining her teaching certificate she taught at Whiting Elementary school in rural Bowman County.

In 1947 Goldie was united in marriage with Gordon Loder. After their marriage they made their home on the Loder family farm and this is where they raised their family, son Gary and daughter Gail. Goldie enjoyed the ranch life including growing a big garden, lambing and calving. One of her great loves was raising quality Arabian horses which she enjoyed training and getting others interested in riding. Goldie started both her children out at an early age riding their favorite ponies just like she and her sister Margaret had done.

Goldie left the family farm in the 80's to pursue her college education at Dickinson State College where she earned her Bachelor's degree. Some of Goldie's passions were oil painting, photography, camping, training horses, travel and writing. Goldie published a few books about what it was like growing up in South Dakota during the depression, and recounted many stories told to her by her parents.

Goldie spent the last 25 years in Spearfish, SD where she worked in the insurance field, at the Green Thumb and for the Black Hills Forest Service. Goldie enjoyed spending time with family and traveling whenever possible.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Gary Loder and Nancy Teigen of Bowman, ND; daughter Gail Lodr-Simonsen of Golden, CO; grandchildren Eugene (Danette) Loder, Charles (Carla) Loder, and Kim Lecoe and Donald Miller; eight great children; sister Margaret Forester of Grand Junction; brother Norman (Vonda) Westers of Buffalo, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Nellie Westerskow and her brother Eanard Westerskow.
