Gary was born on November 16th, 1953, in Brockton, MA, son of S. Gary and Marjorie (Fischer) Orcutt. The family moved to the Bowman, ND area when Gary was two years old. Over time, he and his big sisters were joined by two more sisters and a brother. As he grew, he learned to hunt and fish, camping with family and developing the love of the outdoors that carried him through his entire life. Gary's great love for his brother and sisters was well known and returned in kind, even though over the years their bond was tested with the deaths of their parents and a sister, all at a much-too-early age. That love for one another has carried them through many storms and has only grown stronger with time. Gary attended school in Bowman, graduating in 1971, and went on to graduate from Granite Computer Institute, Phoenix, AZ with a degree in Computer Programming. He returned to the Bowman area and went to work in the oilfield to make some good money quickly, and realized he found his vocation in life. He met his future wife, Cathy Smith, in the winter of 1979 and they were married June 6th, 1981 in Bowman. They started their life together, expanding their family to include Michael in 1983. A move to Alaska in 1985 brought a new and exciting chapter to their lives, along with the birth of his beloved daughter, Kristy, in 1988. Eventually the long winters and lack of contact with their families brought them back to Bowman in 1993, and brought one more surprise into their lives with the addition of Brandon in 1995. Gary loved his children with all his heart, and worked long and hard to provide a good life for them. After working for Stride Well service for many years, Gary started a new phase of his oilfield career with the start of a new business, G O Consulting, working in the Bakken for EOG until February of 2015, when he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme and began his fight against this deadly disease. Gary passed doing one of the things he loved to do most of all, ice fishing at Shade Hill.

Gary is survived by wife Cathy, children Michael, Kristy, and Brandon, sisters Cathy (Ray) Kessler, Mary Beth (Kelly) Schumacher, Cheryl Tolson, Teresa (Joe) Porten, brother Donnie (Marla) Orcutt, brother-in-law Dick Smith, father-in-law Mahlon (Laurie) Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in law.

Preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Orcutt, father and step-mother S. Gary and Helen Orcutt, and his sister, Barb Smith
