Everett Eugene Coates, 89, of Rhame, ND, died February 7, 2013 at the Southwest Health Care Long Term Care unit in Bowman, ND.
Viewing for Everett will be Monday, February 11, 2013, at Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home, Bowman, ND from 9:00 am to 9:00 p.m. Private funeral service will be held at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral home.
Everett Coates was born on November 2, 1923 to Erwin and Lilly (Varney) Coates. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Rhame, ND. He attended Sunset #1 and Sunset #2 country schools and completed 1 ½ years of high school.
Everett, his brother Lyle and their father Erwin, operated a grain and livestock farm. He enlisted in the US Army on October 22, 1943 and was later honorably discharged on April 4. 1946.
On October 25, 1947, Everett married Jean Hanson. Together they raised five children, Eloise, Wanda, Merwin, Durwin and Vance on a homestead next to the Little Missouri River, south of Rhame.
Everett was a hard worker and had many jobs throughout his life. He was always available for the area neighbors, farmers and ranchers to weld or fix whatever needed to be repaired. He enjoyed many things in life. He shared a love of fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren, always showing respect for wildlife. Everett was very proud of his son and grandsons serving in the U.S. military as Marines. He was an expert marksman always bagging his deer with one shot. He loved to guide hunters from eastern North Dakota in bagging the biggest deer of the season.
Everett loved to dance, play pool and visit with his buddies every Saturday night at the local dances. Everett was Big Pa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed all the moments he spent with them.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Lilly, his sister Margie Eagon and his brother Lyle Coates.
With Everett being the last of Erwin and Lilly Coates' children, the Coates family generations will be carried on by his surviving children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in- law, Eloise (Roger) Narveson, Dickinson, ND, Wanda (David) Berdahl, Moorhead, MN, sons and daughters-in-law, Merwin (Kathy ) Coates, Bowman, ND, Durwin (Barbara) Coates, Waukon, IA and Vance (Lynda) Coates, Rozet, WY. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews on Eagon, and Hanson sides of the family.
