Eunice Boehlke Van Daele was born October 19, 1927 at the New England, North Dakota farmstead, the daughter of Rudolph and Barbara (Meyer) Boehlke. She was raised with her seven brothers and sisters, and her cousin, Pete Meyer, after the death of his parents. As a small child she and her family moved to Spokane, Washington for a short time, and then moved back to North Dakota, settling in the Golva area. She attended country school her first eight years and went to high school in Golva, where she enjoyed playing girls basketball. After high school, she worked as a nurse's aide and waitress. On February 9, 1948, Eunice married George Van Daele in Glendive, Montana. To this union, four children were born.
They worked on a ranch north of Rhame and worked on a farm near Golva for three years. They then moved back north of Rhame and operated George's mother's ranch, purchasing it in 1962. They lived in the country while moving to Bowman, October 30, 1999.
Eunice was a hard worker, working side by side with George, the love of her life. Wherever one was, so was the other. She loved the outdoors and working with their cattle. She looked forward to the brandings and getting together with all of their good neighbors. Herefords were her favorite. Working in the garden, hunting for rocks and arrowheads, were also some of her favorite pastimes.
When you came to Eunice's door, you were always welcomed with a cheerful "come in" and a cup of coffee, anytime. She loved to visit. Grandma GG's home was a welcoming spot for her friends, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. The in-laws were also her kids, not in-laws.
She will always be remembered by us, singing hymns or her little ditties as she worked and would incorporate a Bible verse once in a while pertaining to what was going on in our lives. She will be remembered by her quick wit and the love of a good joke. She was there to give encouragement and good, sound advice, or just listen. She was an example of how to live life and did not let circumstances or her illness get her down. She was always there, all you had to do was drop in. She would lend a helping hand to anyone. She taught Sunday school, Bible school, was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rhame, assistant 4-H leader, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Alex Sygulla Post 4306 in Golva, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, brothers, William, Peter, Robert (all in childhood), George (Sarah), Rudolph Jr. (Jackie), Bernard, and Leonard, sisters, Ruth Wojahn, and Gertrude (John) Susa, and one infant grandson, Eric.
Survivors include, her children, Cheryl (Dennis) Schwartz, Bowman, ND , Gary (Cheryl) Van Daele, Rhame, ND, Lennie (Kevin) Kempenich, Bowman, ND, Bonnie (Lee) Schwarzwalter, Scranton, ND, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren: Shelly (Danny), Casey, and Brandon Schaff, Wade (Shonda), Cale, and Blake Schwartz, Mandi (Shawn), Marlie, and Elsie Allerdings, Abby (Richard), Avrie, and Luke Nohava, Lana (Cliff), Grant, and Eric Maychrzak, Tracy (Ryan), Brooke, and Bailey Peterson, Tyler (Kristy), Emberly, and Adelynn Van Daele, Kristi (Cory), Gracie, and Charlee Beth Blaser, Tessa (Bill), and Tanner Schmitt, Kayla (JB), and Padyn Pauley, Bobbi (Marshall), and Jase Battest, and Jordan Schwarzwalter, sisters-in-law, Sarah Pryde, Margaret Boehlke, and brother-in-law, Ernie Wojahn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
