Obituary

Eugene John Peters, 97, of Bowman, ND, passed away

peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at

Augusta Place in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Eugene was born on December 20, 1927, in Iowa City,

Iowa, the sixth and youngest child of Oscar and May

(Smith) Peters. His first years were spent in Iowa and

Minnesota, where he lost both his father and mother at

an early age. His oldest sister moved the remaining

family west to North Dakota and through hardship and

hard work, Eugene forged a lifelong attachment to the

area.

In 1950, Eugene married Laura Soderstrom in Bowman ND. Together they raised their

family of four sons, Larry, John, Wade and David. For a few years they lived and worked

in various areas of the Midwest as Eugene worked in rotary drilling and long hauling

lumber. Eventually they returned to Bowman where Eugene founded Peters Drilling in

1972, working until he retired in 1992. Along the way he mentored many future drillers.

Eugene's interests and energy knew no bounds. His quest for knowledge was fed

through engaging others, reading books, and traveling.

He will be remembered as an honest and straightforward hardworking man, and a

steadfast supporter of family and friends.

Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Oscar (1932) and May (1937), sisters Doris

(2011) and Helen (2013), brothers Emery (1971), Darel "Tom" (2005), and Paul (2014),

son Wade (2002) and by Laura S Peters (2023). He is survived by his sons Larry, John,

David and their spouses Virginia, Roberta and Tresha. He is survived by and was a proud

grandfather of eleven grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

Eugene will be dearly missed.

Eugene's family would like to thank the health care team at Augusta Place in Bismarck

for their outstanding care and compassion.
