Born February 10, 1934 at Reeder, ND to Fred and Myrthel Thorpe Lemke. She was raised on a farm five miles northeast of Haley, ND. Edna attended eight years of school in Haley and graduated from Bowman Public High School with the class of 1951. Edna and Stanley Soderstrom married in June, 1952. They lived briefly in Hawaii while Stanley served in the Army. They returned home to farm near Griffin, ND. They had two children: Esther Mae and Stan C.
Always a hard worker, Edna is best known for her compassion and warmth during her 30 years of service as a nurse's aide at Saint Luke's Tri-State Hospital and five years with Home Health. Edna was a faithful member and supporter of her church, the Bowman Assembly of God.
Edna was a woman of faith, following the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ; she lived by that faith. She prayed for many with the desire that those she cared for would walk in faith as well. She desired that she could live in her own home until the day Jesus took her to live in His. This desire was fulfilled early Monday, December 20, 2010.
She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; one sister; her husband; and step grandson Jake Lynch. She is survived by her children – Esther and Stan, and their spouses, Bob and Carrie; by one grandchild – Benjamin Eric Hockett, two great-grandchildren – Genevieve Moon Hockett and Jonas Michael Hockett; step grandson Josh Lynch; and step great-grandchildren Jed and Sara Lynch; her sister – Lois Marie Lemke Bernhardt, nieces, nephews, many friends and former patients.
And now, while we celebrate her life and her presence in ours, we mourn the loss of her smile, determination and companionship. We are grateful that she celebrates her first Christmas in heaven with her Lord. Amen.
