Don was born December 31, 1937, to Harrison and Leona (Padget) Nordgren, Bowman, ND. He graduated from Bowman High School in 1955. He married Berdina "Toots" (Bassen) Ode along with her 5 children; Linda, Mark, Gail, Beth and Rock on September 30, 1960.  Three more children were born into the family; Bonnie, Mona and Daniel.  Don and Toots built a home in 1961 large enough for their family to live in.  It is still called home 60 years later.  They also boarded 12 high school students over the years.

Toots wrote that Don could accomplish anything he was asked to do or put his mind to do-mechanic, plumbing, electrical, heating, carpentry, etc.

Don purchased his own garbage truck and ran his own business while in high school.  He gained much experience working for multiple companies until he found his calling as a State Farm insurance agent, thanks to his mentor Marv Patterson.  He built a successful business over 31 years and earned many awards as well as great respect from the "Dakota Pride" agents.  He retired in 1995.

Don and Toots traveled extensively throughout the US and internationally both with State Farm and after retirement.

Don was active in JC's, Bowman Lutheran Church, Bowman Fire Department (Treasurer for many years), was on the Medcenter One Hospital Board of Directors in Bismarck, ND and was on the School of Promise Board of Directors in Bowman. Don enjoyed participating in the School of Promise auction, supporting the programs to help children.  He was also a member of the Bismarck-Mandan Elks for over 50 years.

Don and Toots enjoyed dancing, even joining a square dance group in the early 60's.  Playing a game of pinochle or the latest card game with his family was always enjoyable.  He loved to go camping, first in a pop-up camper and later in an RV/Motor Home.  Don and Toots spent many hours fishing, especially fishing for salmon at Garrison Dam.

Don could be seen riding his single speed bicycle around Bowman; he enjoyed checking out the neighborhood as well as stopping to chat with neighbors.  He wore out a couple of bicycles throughout the years.

Don is survived by his daughters, Mona (Dennis) Drolc, SD, Bonnie (David) Lake, AZ, Beth (Thomas) Rea, CA and Gail (James) Jordahl, MN and sons, Daniel (Barbara) Nordgren, NE and Mark (Vicki) Ode, AZ.  Ten grandchildren; David Drolc, Michael and Samuel Rea, J'Amy (Jeff) Kluender, Cara (Ryan) Langlie and Alyssa (Steven) Blomquist, Derek (Ellen) Nordgren, Sean Nordgren, Rachel Nordgren and Bill Ode.  Ten great grandchildren, Chloe and Lucas Kluender, Michael, Tyler and Sarah Langlie, Alexander and Vivian Blomquist, and Will, Samuel and Josh Ode.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Toots, the love of his life in 2013, his siblings, Ronald and Murray, Helen, Ila, Anna Mae and Jeanette, son Rock Ode, daughter Linda Ode and granddaughter Nicole Nordgren.

Memorials may be sent to Southwest Healthcare Center, Bowman, ND, Bowman Ambulance Service or the Bowman Fire Department.
