David Lee Ensign was born Feb 4th, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. His brother Gail was born in 1943 and together with their mom, Eugenie moved to North Dakota. He was raised on a Dairy Farm on the Ensign Homestead southwest of Scranton. He was the oldest of eight children; Gail, Bonnie, Judy, Gene, Richard, Gordon and Allen. He attended Scranton School graduating in 1960.
Following graduation he went to college for a short time. He then decided to go back home and help build the Scranton Feed Plant.
David married his highschool sweetheart at Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton on June 14th 1963. Melissa and Monica joined them in their 10' x 48' trailer on the Ensign Farm. They moved to Scranton after about 8 years.
Dave was a professional truck driver for most of his life. We have no idea how many millions of miles he put on. He hauled feed, fuel, propane and anhydrous ammonia for Scranton Equity for many years. He drove for Quality Transportation and Beeline Transportation out of Baker MT. In 1975 he bought a GMC General and started D & L Ensign Trucking and was leased to Scranton Equity and
Farmland Industries hauling gas, diesel, propane and anhydrous . He then drove for Swift transportation for 12 years as a driver & driver trainer. He retired until his brother Gene pulled him out of retirement to haul feed. In his retirement, he was devoted to taking care of Leona. Dave was a simple, wise and caring husband, dad, grandpa, brother, a truck driver, farmer, friend, pinochle player, fan of his favorite sports, strong in his faith, and firm in his beliefs. He had the most beautiful song in his voice and a smile that lit up an entire room. He trucked the rest of his life, but downsized to a buick. He loved to take his family with him to show them the United States.
He is survived by his wife Leona, 2 daughters Melissa (Steve) Mutschelknaus & Monica (Loren) Nielsen; 7 grandchildren Brandon, Chantel, Bailey, Beau, Campbell, Cody, Cayden; 4 great- grandchildren Havyn, Adeline, Lorali and Vander.
David is preceded in death by his Mom & Dad; Eugenie & Clayton Ensign and a brother, Richard Ensign.
