*****COMMITTAL SERVICES FOR DAVID WILL BE ON SATURDAY, APRIL 8, 2023 AT 11:00 A.M. AT THE PEACE LUTHERAN CEMETERY, SCRANTON, ND.*****
David Irvin Bliss, age 91, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, at West River Health Services in Hettinger, ND with his beloved wife, Sharon, by his side.
Funeral Services for David will be at 10:30 am on Monday, December 19th, 2022, at Peace Lutheran in Scranton, ND with Pastor Mary Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow the service at Scranton Cemetery, Scranton, ND. Public visitation for David will be Sunday, December 18th, 2022, at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Service Chapel from 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
David was born on December 15, 1930, to Irvin and Kathryn (Schoen) Bliss. He was the second child, with an older sister Dorothy and younger brother Ralph. Kathryn died in 1934 when David was three years old. Irvin later married Esther Otto and they had two daughters, Ruth and Leona.
David grew up on the family farmstead southwest of Scranton. He attended grade school in Whiting Township and graduated high school in 1948 in Scranton, ND.
David was drafted into the US Army on January 8, 1952 and served in the Korean War until he was discharged in September 1953. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 70 years.
Upon return from Korea, David worked at the Scranton Equity Lumber Yard for a short time before he started farming with his father.
David and Sharon (Brown) were married June 12, 1955. They settled on a homestead near Irvin's and purchased additional farmland to the south. There they farmed and ranched, raising their five children.
David was a wonderful provider and he loved to farm. He learned that honesty and hard work builds character, not always bank accounts. And even though Mother Nature didn't always cooperate, he made a living and raised his family doing what he loved, with whom he loved. He served his community, and was active in Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Scranton Equity Board. In 2011, after 70 years of farming, David decided to retire. Tony and Dianne Pierce took over the family farm, and David enjoyed helping as much as he could.
David was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, sister, and brother, his son Lyle, and son-in-law Dan Nudell.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sharon; daughters Linda (Nudell), Brenda (Dennis)Schaible, Dianne (Tony)Pierce, Loretta (Elroy)Sperle; daughter-in-law Jolyn Bliss; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two younger sisters.
