On Saturday, May 13, 2023, David Ray Nygaard of Bowman, ND passed away peacefully at the age of 84 at the SW Health Care facility. He was a generous, hard-working man who made a lasting impact on everything he touched, especially his family and local community.
Dave was born August 24, 1938 in Bowman, ND to Oscar and Irene Nygaard. Growing up, he helped his father run the family farm and graduated from Bowman High School in 1956. He then enlisted and served honorably in the Air Force as a Navigation Equipment Maintenance Repairman from September 25, 1956 through September 24, 1960. He was stationed in both Greenland and Turkey during this timeframe. Afterward, he returned to Bowman to work various jobs culminating in co-owning Bowman Implement from 1972 – 2004. Dave's most valued treasure was his family and friends. Dave married his life-long love and partner Carol Fenton in 1961 and had two daughters, Camille and Lynne. In Bowman, he was an active community memberserving on multiple boards. Simultaneously he managed the Donley, King, Nygaard Farm. On the farm, his favorite memories entailed enjoying family visits, riding in his four-wheeler and hunting pheasant, antelope and deer.
Welcoming Dave into heaven are his parents Oscar and Irene and his wifeCarol.
He is survived by his two daughters, Camille and Greg Remus, and Lynne Nygaard and Camille's family. Dave has three granddaughters, Myrtyce L. and Nick Courtright, Kyrsten Remus and Mike Howard, and Lora and Joe Martinson. He has four great-grandchildren, Myrtyce J. Courtright, Gage Courtright, Mia Howard and Andie Howard.
He is also survived by his three sisters Janet Biel of Bismarck, ND, Marie King of Robbinsdale, MN and Carol and Bill Donley of Williamsville, NY.
Dave was a dedicated supporter of SW Health Care and ABLE (Lynne has worked at ABLE for many years) in Bowman. In lieu of flowers, he would have asked that memorials be given to ABLE and SW Health Care.
