Darrell Eugene Stebbins, 84, of Bowman, ND, peacefully left this earth for heaven on January 20, 2022, at Southwest Healthcare Hospital, in Bowman.

Darrell was born on June 19, 1937, in Bowman, ND, the second child of four to Harry and Hazel Stebbins.

In his formative years, Darrell spent time helping at his uncle's farm, and grew up around the semis that long defined the Stebbins family. In high school, he enjoyed playing basketball and football.

After graduating high school, Darrell was drafted into the United States Army in 1955, and spent most of his time in Germany, which he enjoyed, until his return to Bowman in 1957. Bowman was always his home and was a source of enormous pride for him.

Darrell married his high school sweetheart, Joan Kosmicki, on May 3, 1958, at St. Charles Catholic Church, in Bowman. Six years later, they happily welcomed their son, Danny Stebbins, and two years later, their daughter, Julie (Stebbins) Cormier. Darrell's children were a great source of pride and enjoyment for him.

In 1961, Darrell and Joan purchased Bowman Paint and Glass, and Darrell began his long and distinguished career. Darrell's pride in his family, his work, and his community were felt by everyone who knew him. His shop and tools were never in anything less than perfect condition. And that most organized shop was found just across the street from the best manicured and greenest lawn in town. Darrell loved his family, a clean pickup, and his grass.

On January 26, 1993, Darrell's heart grew in indescribable ways when Julie and her husband Andre, welcomed Darrell and Joan's first and only grandchild, Christina.

From the day of her birth, until the date of his death, Christina was the apple of Darrell's eye. Each summer and many Christmases, they could be found together having morning coffee with friends at the Gateway and afternoon coffee and cards at Big J's. And as she grew, they enjoyed woodworking together in the shop. Christina was known to challenge Darrell's neatness and stubbornness, which he often reminded her of.

He proudly served the Bowman Fire Department for twenty-five years. Upon his retirement from Bowman Glass in 1996, he took his craft of neatly trimmed, green grass to the Bowman Cemetery, where he served the board and acted as the head caretaker for many years.

Darrell's grief at the loss of Joan in 2010, was later turned to love, as he rekindled with an old friend, Bev. In 2015, Darrell and Bev were married in Tucson, Arizona and she became Bev Stebbins. The couple heartily enjoyed wintering in Arizona and making their home together in Bowman. And Darrell gratefully welcomed in two additional children, Liz and Tim, and grand-twins, Sophia and Helene.

Darrell proudly watched Christina graduate from college with her love, J.J., and was then pleasantly surprised to find out he would welcome two great-grandchildren, Jairah and Jairus Joe II ("Deucy").

Darrell's family will dearly miss their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, yet they rejoice that he was welcomed into heaven by his beloved daughter, Julie. Darrel's family and friends alike will miss his kindness, his service, his stories at coffee, and his hearty laugh.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Bev Stebbins, son, Danny Stebbins, granddaughter, Christina (J.J. Gaines) Cormier, great-grandchildren, Jairah and Jairus Joe II Gaines, children, Liz (Mike) Spiewak and Tim (Debbie) Batten, and grandchildren, Sophia and Helene Spiewak; brothers, Frank (Bonnie) and Jim (Jan) Stebbins; and uncle, Bill Sebbins.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hazel, brother, Duane, daughter, Julie, and wife, Joan.
