For several years Darrel and Verna traveled on their motorcycle. In his early marriage he played with the band The Embers. He was an excellent guitar player. He always had a new swing that he made for the archway between the living room and dining room for kids to swing on. Many children used that swing. When it came time for butchering chickens, he made sure he had to summer fallow.
He semi-retired in 2006 and just farmed one quarter up until 2013 when he rented it out. Darrel and Verna enjoyed traveling and just sitting on their deck watching the animals and the birds.
