Darlene E. Gerth was born on March 3, 1930 in Garrison, North Dakota, the daughter of Wesley and Lily Cumings. She was raised on a farm in Garrison, attended and graduated High School from Garrison, and later from Minot state university. She went on to become a teacher in Garrison in 1952.
Darlene met the love of her life Fred Gerth who was working in the grocery store at the time. Darlene and Fred were united in marriage in 1955 and moved to Fargo where she worked in the NDSU administration offices while Fred was finishing his degree.
Darlene and Fred then moved to New England, ND, where Fred taught while Darlene raised their four sons, Ron, Jeff, Gary and Randy. In 1967 they moved to Bowman, ND where they had their daughter Jana.
While living in Bowman, Darlene opened a Greenhouse and Nursery called The Plant Place. They both retired from this business in 2000 and started enjoying their hobbies; traveling, beekeeping, baking, sewing, gardening and golfing. Darlene also enjoyed spending time with her kids and baking buns with her grandchildren. Darlene was very active in the church and community.
In 2019 after Fred passed away, Darlene moved to Rapid City to be closer to family.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents, Lily and Wesley, son Gary, grandson Shad, Greatgrandson Henry, brothers, Warren Cumings and Wes Cumings.
Darlene is survived by her children, Ron (Kara) Gerth of Duluth, MN, Jeff (April) Gerth of Sheridan, MT, Randy (Andrea) Gerth of Anacortis, WA, and Jana (Scott) Isbell of Rapid City, SD, and her 13 grandchildren.
We want to thank the staff at Fountain Springs Nursing home for taking such good care of Darlene
