Cy was born on January 22, 1926, in Amidon, North Dakota to James Leo Fulton and Freda (Peter) Fulton. He was raised in Amidon and attended school there through the 8th grade. He then attended New England Public School, New England, North Dakota, and graduated in 1944.
On June 17th, 1944, he entered the U. S. Navy. He was stationed at San Nicolas Island, Los Alomitos, California. He was honorably discharged on July 12, 1946. He moved back to Amidon, where he became manager of the Amidon branch of Stuber Farm and Ranch Store.
On January 4, 1951, Cy married Janice Johnson in Rhame, North Dakota. They lived in Amidon until 1954, when they moved to Bowman. Cy went to work for the Bowman branch of Stuber Farm and Ranch Store. After several years there, he went to work at First National Bank in Bowman, where he eventually became the president.
Cy was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He also enjoyed woodworking and made furniture for his family. He played baseball for Amidon and Bowman, and was a volunteer fireman for several years in Bowman. He enjoyed bowling league and old men's softball. He was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years, and a member of the Greater North Dakota Association. Cy served on the executive council of the North Dakota Bankers Association. He was also a member of Sweetwater Golf Course and the Bowman Lutheran Church.
He liked going up to his parents' farm in Amidon to plant and harvest. For several summers, Cy and Jan parked their camper there and raised a big garden. Cy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; playing cards for breakfast at the cafe, meeting friends for coffee or drinks, entertaining family for holidays, sitting on the patio listening to the birds, and seeing his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was known for playing a practical joke or two. He was restless by nature, and even up to a couple of weeks ago, rarely passed up a chance to go for a ride.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jan, his sister Jackie Nelson, his brother-in-law Larry Nelson, and his parents Jim and Freda Fulton.
He is survived by the following family members, who will miss him greatly: his daughters Cris Fulton of Bowman, Gwynne (Tim) Smith of Lodgepole, South Dakota, and Cindy Wilcox of Bismarck; his sister-in-law Sandie Johnson of LaGrange, Georgia, his brother-in-law Bob Johnson of Moline, Illinois; his grandchildren Kyle (Holly) Smith of Spearfish, South Dakota, Josh Smith of Dallas, Texas, Jeff (Shalee) Smith of Lodgepole, South Dakota, Ryan (Jamie) Wilcox of Helena, Montana, Chad (Rhonda) Wilcox of Boulder, Colorado; his great-grandchildren Cameron, Josh, and Nathaniel Wilcox, Jaden, Aubree, and Knox Smith; several cousins and nieces and nephews.
