Obituary

Craig Charles McLaughlin II, 30, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away in Bowman, ND, on June 26, 2010 while attending family reunions. Funeral Services for Craig will be on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Galen Strand and Pastor Charles Swanson will officiate with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. A memorial service will also be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 4 p.m. at University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.

Craig collapsed and died unexpectedly while entertaining his cousins with his remote control car, airplane, and helicopters – a hobby that was a chief source of joy to him. Craig was born July 1, 1979 to Sarah (Crook) and Craig McLaughlin while they were living in Oak Harbor, WA, during his father's service to the U.S. Navy, and he was baptized at Rhame Lutheran Church later that fall.

Craig loved fixing and tinkering with automobiles and anything mechanical, and his Jeeps were his passion. He loved it when his friends stopped by the shop, and he worked on many of their things. He'd try to fix anything, doing many repair jobs by reading a manual. Craig also had considerable landscaping talents, and at the time of his death he was the mechanic for FertiLawn in East Grand Forks, MN. He had a dream of opening his own landscaping business again. Craig was also a big fan of Louis L'Amour books and John Wayne movies, and was always on the lookout for John Wayne memorabilia.

He is survived by his parents, recently of Belfield; his sister Kathleen McLaughlin and her fiancé Jesse Richardson, Joppa, MD; his brothers Matthew and Michael McLaughlin, Grand Forks; his grandparents Gerald and Darlene McLaughlin, Bowman, Marian Crook, Mandan, and Garland and Cheryl Crook, Dickinson; his great-grandmother Fern Hagemeister, Bowman; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as countless friends. Because of his heart of gold, he was a friend to many and an enemy to no one.
