Claudia Kralicek Maychrzak passed away Dec. 19, 2013, the day before her 94th birthday.
She was born Dec. 20, 1919, the fourth child of seven to Frank and Helen Kadrmas Kralicek north of Dickinson, ND. Her family moved to a farm south of Gascoyne, ND to a farm that her brother George eventually took over.
Claudia spent her first grade learning the English language. She was very bright and was soon answering questions missed by older students. She was not able to secure a High School education due to the financial needs of her family. Claudia became a Hired Girl, working for neighbors and giving her earnings to her parents. She loved to dance and laugh and caught the eye of a local farmer at one of the many barn dances that folks held. Claudia married Albert Maychrzak on July 27, 1937 at the Stanslaus Church in Haley and they began farming 10 miles south of Scranton, ND.
Claudia and Albert raised 9 children. During these days of hard farm labor and childcare, she continued to pursue an education, taking Taxidermy, Accounting, Landscape and Design, and Floral Arrangement classes by correspondence. She put these classes to use landscaping the farmstead and starting her own business selling wood fiber floral arrangements. She drew out the design and help construct their home . Claudia shared with and passed on to her children a passion for learning, reading, gardening, music, dance, and creative endeavors.
Claudia was also active in the community acting as a 4-H Leader for several years, a member of the Rocky Ridge Homemaker's Club. As a member of the little Catholic Church in Haley she served in every way possible. As a member of the Sacred Heart Church she served as choir director, catechism teacher, Education Minister and an Alter Society member. She provided both Churches with flowers from her garden from the first blossom in spring until frost and then would make wood fiber arrangements during the winter months.
Her greatest success and treasure was her children. She was very proud of each of them and taught them to work hard and never set boundaries on their dreams.
She is survived by her sons Edward (Nadine) of Marysville WA, Ell Dean (Char) and Elbert (Charlene) of Scranton ND, her daughters Evelyn (Richard) Greisch of Bismarck ND, Elaine (Ashley) Stanhope of Baker MT, Edna (Ken) Scalzone of Dillon MT, E.
