Caroline was born on December 8, 1934 in Whiting Township south of Scranton, North Dakota to Rose (Schaaf) and EigenSchumacher. She grew up and attended a country school and graduated from Scranton High School, going on to college to become a teacher.   Her mom passed away when she was very young, she became the nurturing, caring kind hearted one to her younger brother and sisters.

She married Leo Germann on a stormy day on April 18, 1959.  They lived southwest of Bowman for a short time then in 1964 moved to a farm north of Rhame where they farmed and ranched all their life. Over time they grew their family and raised seven children.   She always had a plan for the house, but Leo got the barns first.  She finally designed a kitchen that could host many brandings, card parties and family holiday dinners.  The coffee pot was always on for the neighbors or anyone else who came to the door.

She loved the farm.  It was hard work, but she never complained. Caroline would tend to the animals and even bring them into the house to nurse them back to life. Even though she loved the pigs, she did not like them in her flower beds.  Her and Leo were proud to be the area Vigortone dealers, as well as putting her math skills to work keeping the books.

As her children grew, she had free time that she filled with working at the Waterhole and the Home Base Auction. Being a strong-willed woman she was, she started her business "The Corral" at the sales barn.  People soon learned the food was delicious and she began catering for weddings, banquets and other community functions.

Caroline was an active member of the community serving as the American Legion Auxiliary President for several years. Miss Poppy was one of her favorite events to organize.  She recruited her daughters and granddaughters to be Miss Poppy. She never missed Rhame Gala day and an opportunity to judge the Chili cook off. She was a proud member of the Mound Church, attending every Sunday and always bringing something to eat.  She was honored to coordinate the Memorial Service and holiday services every year.

Caroline loved to go places and had many hobbies such ascrafting, attending dances, rodeos and wagon trail rides.  She visited Alaska, catching salmon and halibut. She walked in the sand on the beaches of Hawaii and Bahamas. But her favorite place to go was where ever her children would drive that day.

Her legacy can be seen in the sweet brilliant children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She would attend the school activities, mend broken bones, apply band-aids, play board game and make homemade noodles for them.  We will miss you but enjoy playing games with Dad and Nick.  No cheating and remember to shut the gate before you start.

Caroline is preceded in death by her husband Leo, parents Eigen and Rose, brother Leroy Schumacher and sister Margert Anderson and grandson Nicholas "Nick" Germann.   She is survived by her children: Three daughters, Rose Bergquist (Wayne) and Wanda Heick (Terry) both of Bowman, and Joleen Riley (Russ) of Prosper Tx: four sons Darwin (Colleen) and Michael (Stephanee) both of Rhame, Edwin (Karla), Bowman and Bruce (Dawn) of Farmington, Minn. ; Sixteen grandchildren, Kory Bergquist, Christopher Bergquist (Teri), Amy Burke (John), Kristina Nitschke, (Nate), Derrick Germann(Jordyn), Justin Germann, Kyle Germann, Nicole Germann(Sean), Zach Riley, Brett Germann, Hannah Germann, Dana Eagon (Neyl), Kelsey Turbiville (Nevada), Machaela Germannand Madison Germann; Eleven great grandchildren Gabriel Burke, Abigail Bruke, Trinity Burke, Raifiel Burke; Olivia Nitschke, Drew Nitschke, Ty Nitschke, Lennox Germann, Pepper Germann, Gretchyn Eagon, Landyn Eagon.  And a great many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
